Luxury camping, glamping, call it what you will, all we know is that a night spent in Bodger, the shepherds hut, is a unique and truly special experience. Tucked away in tranquil woodland Bodger is reached by a wooden walkway which winds through the trees. Guests who stay here can expect peace and quiet and a great opportunity to get close to nature; keep an eye out for the many deer and pheasant that call the woodland home. This place is great for artists, couples seeking a romantic getaway, or just someone who is after a break that differs from the norm. For large groups the entire site can be hired, with use of yurts, bell tents and tipis, for a night to remember.
Bodger comes complete with its own toilet and shower, which are completely private. The shower, however, is uncovered; meaning a steaming shower under the sun or stars is a possibility. Inside the hut you will find a comfy double bed and a wood burner, so even during some of England’s chillier nights, you can stay as toasty as you like; snuggled under the duvet with a good book and perhaps a glass of the local cider. Outside, guests can enjoy a private decked area with seating and a table for two, on which they can savour the pizzas that they have cooked on the outdoor pizza oven. A further al fresco cooking option is the barbeque and there is also fire pit, which will ensure you have somewhere to toast those marshmallows.
The luxury doesn’t stop there though; all guests have access to a communal sauna and also have the option to get involved with a variety of woodworking courses, which are suitable for everyone from complete novices, to seasoned pros. There is also a Woodland kitchen, so all of your self catering needs can be met.
After exploring the woodland, be sure to venture out to explore the area, Situated on the borders of Dorset, Devon and Somerset and in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the region is unsurprisingly a walker’s paradise. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, take some time to visit some of the local restaurants which are famed for their innovative use of local produce. The owners recommend the Hive Beach Cafe, for its award winning local seafood and stunning location, right on the beach. A visit to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen is a must, whether that is to dine or to stock up on local produce. Hunt for fossils on Charmouth beach and follow it up with a scenic cliff walk, or visit Forde Abbey, whose beautiful estate borders the site’s woodland.
