A real chocolate-box English country cottage, Asphodel Cottage in Tarlton near Cirencester is the 17th-century destination for a perfect romantic escape. A thatched roof, low-beamed ceilings, open brick fireplace… if they gave awards for chocolate box charm, little Asphodel Cottage would win every year.
The cosy lounge is the place to settle on a cold winter’s evening, with the original inglenook fireplace, big velvet sofas and oriental carpets keeping you snug as you like. The lights are low and the walls lined with intriguing works of art. The TV is upstairs, so this is a room to talk, read and enjoy… but you can still use the free Wi-Fi.
More space to lounge around is found in the pretty garden, with a covered seating area featuring comfy rattan sofas lining up alongside Cotswold stone walls. You might like to enjoy your breakfast outside when the weather permits; the garden is secluded, quiet and south-facing, with views down to the Bathurst Estate.
The kitchen has modern appliances but retains the old country charm. Prepare something life-affirming and enjoy it at the farmhouse-style dining table. Vintage china plates, crystal glasses and silver-plate cutlery are all provided to make your meals extra-special.
You’ll find a decadent free-standing bath in the wooden-floored bathroom, with views out across the Gloucestershire countryside. Big fluffy towels and complimentary Molton Brown toiletries will make pampering each other even more fun.
The bedroom has an understated chic about it, where a smartly dressed double nestles under the beams. There’s an LCD TV with DVD player and choice of films too.
The ideal base to explore the Cotswolds, Asphodel Cottage is within easy reach of all the main towns and much more in-between. Cirencester and Stroud are 20 minutes’ drive, and Cheltenham, Gloucester and Burford are around 40 minutes away. With Worcester, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon little more than an hour from the cottage, you can make the most of your days and get to all the area’s attractions with no problems.
If you just fancy a carefree wander down the lanes, the nearest pub, The Tunnel House, is only a mile away. For some award-winning country inn dining, it’s 10 minutes’ drive to The Bell at Sapperton… even more good reasons to get cosy at Asphodel Cottage.

Leave a reviewWhat a fabulous find. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous. In a beautifully quiet location but close to lots of lovely places. The garden is perfect for the dogs and if you have nice weather then it is lovely to sit outside. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The nearby towns are lovely and easily reached. I would highly recommend Asphodel cottage and we will hopefully return as we loved the area.

We wanted a relaxing couples break and the location and stunning Cottage was perfect for us, nothing to distract us but close enough to so many beautiful walks and villages. The intimate cottage, was romantic and charming with a beautiful garden to enjoy the sunshine all day long . High quality bed linen and a comfortable free standing bath just added to the luxury to relax for a wonderful nights sleep. Whilst the kitchen was bijou, it had everything needed to make breakfast, lunch and dinner if you didn't want to venture out. All in all we had a most enjoyable and superb holiday. Thank you

We enjoyed a fabulous stay in this pretty cottage. Tucked away from it all, and with everything you would need form a rental cottage, it was still only a short distance from everything we wanted to see in the Cotswolds. Evenings holed up in front of the fire (with the complimentary prosecco!) was heaven.

We can't recommend a stay in beautiful 'Asphodel Cottage' highly enough! Such a gem of a 17th century 'gingerbread' cottage, situated close to the royal town of Tetbury, and Highgrove. The owners have paid such a high attention to detail with a mix of quirky and contemporary decoration, alongside some really beautiful, original art. Tarlton is based in a protected conservation area, and the views across the countryside are breathtaking.
