This marvellous wood cabin offers couples a truly romantic retreat in an ancient woodland in Gloucestershire. Built in harmony with its surroundings, this gorgeous home is a unique structure that makes use of honey-coloured tones, stained glass windows and a wood-burning hot tub.
The cabin is an open-plan living space with a cathedral-like ceiling and a stained glass window that was salvaged from Morocco. At one end of the living space is the king size bed, which guarantees guests a delightful night’s sleep. Wake up in the morning and open the shutters to listen to the sounds of the birds outside as you take in the woodland view with your morning coffee. At this end of the cabin there’s also an ensuite shower room and toilet.
The main living space is home to a comfy red leather sofa that sits next to a wood burning stove. Throw some logs on the fire and get cosy on the cowhide rug or soft sheepskins with a glass of wine. The stove doubles as a hot plate and oven, if you want to indulge in some rustic cooking, however, the kitchen area also has an induction hob should you wish to prepare meals in a more modern setting. The kitchen area also features a copper sink and antique butcher’s block. You may also wish to prepare meals outside and make use of the BBQ.
At Arcadia, it’s the little touches that make it truly great. The cutlery provided is silver and the cabin also boasts its own specially commissioned tableware, made by acclaimed ceramicist Barbara Gorton. There’s also a cute table and chairs taken from an Alpine chalet, offering the perfect dining spot for two. Meals can also be enjoyed on the quirky table and chairs outside, offering the ideal alfresco dining spot.
When you step outside into the fresh Gloucestershire air, you’re presented with comfy Adirondack chairs arranged around a fire bowl. This is the perfect spot for sitting out at night gazing up at the stars with your loved one, listening in to the resident owl. And if you want a touch of luxury during your stay, hop into the wood-fired hot tub and relax with a glass of bubbly.
Eco-conscious travellers will be delighted to hear that Arcadia is entirely off-grid. The cabin is powered by a state of the art solar system, has a composting toilet and LED lighting. It was also made by the owners with the help of local craftspeople almost entirely from reclaimed, recycled materials and wood from the woodland in which it stands - the owners felled some local ash trees to make the walls!
When it comes to heading out and exploring the area, you’re nicely placed to enjoy all that Gloucestershire has to offer. The cabin sits in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, meaning there’s lots of lovely countryside just waiting to be explored. There are also a number of lovely villages in the area with delightful country pubs. You’re also a short drive from the spa town of Cheltenham, the Roman town of Cirencester and the funky market town of Stroud.
