Tucked away in the historic fishing town of Anstruther in Fife, Ainster House is a beautifully designed holiday home, inspired by Scotland’s rugged coastline. Behind the restored coach doors, you’ll find carefully selected furnishings and materials that reflect the surrounding landscape. Polished plaster, limestone tiles and bleached oak complement the views over the beach, harbour and the Dreel river that can be glimpsed from one of the two outdoor terraces. The contemporary, minimalist furnishings have been chosen to create a calm, uncomplicated interior that invites you to unwind and relax.
The house is laid out over three levels with the spacious and comfortable living area on the ground floor. The sitting room is the perfect spot to gather after dinner and get a board game going with the stylish gas burning stove crackling away. On warmer days, enjoy a coffee or a cocktail out on the terrace which has seating and lovely views of Anstruther harbour. Head downstairs to the lower level to find the fully-fitted kitchen, equipped for anything from quick breakfasts to big family dinners. There’s a dining table that seats eight and you’ll find some more dining space on the second outdoor terrace.
There’s a twin bedroom on the ground floor, a cosy, relaxed room furnished in neutral, calming tones. You’ll find the other three bedrooms on the upper floor, two king size rooms and another twin. Again, these have all been thoughtfully furnished using natural materials and colour palettes to create a relaxed and restful atmosphere. One of the king size rooms also has a writing desk and can be set up with an additional single bed if you need some extra sleeping space. You’ll also find the bathroom with its luxurious rainfall shower on this floor with fluffy towels and toiletries waiting for you.
There’s plenty to do in the area, from exploring the spectacular coastline and countryside on foot to visiting the historic seaside town of St Andrews. Any keen golfers will want to pack their clubs as there are more than 20 courses to choose from nearby, including the Old Course at St Andrews. This is just an 18-minute drive away and renowned to be the oldest course in the world. Dundee and Edinburgh are also both within easy reach by car for a day trip.
