In the heart of stunning, hilly West Lothian, Craigengar Lodge is an architecturally striking five bedroom lodge with 21st Century amenities and gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Spacious, light and airy with a sleek contemporary design and a steady flow of excellent Trip Advisor reviews, the layout of Craigengar as ideal for families, celebrations, re-unions of friends, small brainstorming corporate events, retreats, mature hen and stag parties, and even small intimate weddings.
Accessibility is key to Craigengar’s ethos, and guests with limited mobility will be delighted to find that they can park right next to the house, which has step-free access to the ground floor. The lodge benefits from a substantial timber deck, perfect for drinks, quiet reading, or enjoying an al fresco meal, while the interior of the property has abundant spaces for eating, socialising, working and relaxing. Whatever the weather, you and your guests will have ample space.
The high-ceilinged main living room comes with a multi-fuel stove, oriental rugs, magnificent views and a table which seats sixteen hungry post-walk diners. On this level you’ll also find two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Upstairs, three more bedrooms await, as well as a mezzanine style open sleeping gallery, with two super-comfortable sofa beds, capable of sleeping four more people.
Quirky, intriguing design is at the heart of the Craigengar Lodge aesthetic. The house is judiciously decorated with pieces by local artists as well as international items of furniture and art objects. It is surrounded by warm timber hues and picture windows gazing out over the dramatic green landscape. No expense has been spared in kitting out the lodge with a state of the art entertainment system, seven DVD equipped televisions and a full Sonos set-up, mood lighting and an iPod docking station. Environmentally conscious holidaymakers can rest assured that this is a low-impact building, as sustainable approaches to energy have been taken in everything from the ground source heat pump which powers the underfloor heating to the triple glazed Scandinavian windows.
The lodge itself is on a 1800 acre working farm, so you have the added benefit of watching sheepdogs at work, and cattle grazing in the pastures. Nestled in the Pentland Hills, you’re embedded in nature, just a convenient thirty minute drive from Edinburgh. Nearby Covenanter’s Grave is a great day out, steeped in local history, while everything from keelboat racing to Go Ape, rock climbing to aerial assault can be arranged in the immediate region. There are a number of trails and footpaths taking you into the hills and surrounding woodlands, perfect for building up an appetite before heading home for a dram of whiskey and a delicious home cooked meal indoors or outside.
