In Pictures: Instamission Berlin for #WallFall25

Published: 26th November 2014

Photographer Neil Fraser found himself in Berlin for a friends birthday, which just happened to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. Here's what he saw.

Id never been to Berlin before and Autumn is great time of year to visit. The leaves had just turned and it was beautiful to walk around the city popping into cozy cafes and bars and checking out the fantastic street art that decorates the city. I visited all the main sites, from the very moving "Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe to the top of the Fernsehturm to see the view and have a cocktail. I even did a bit of dancing at the very cool Chalet Club (it was a birthday weekend after all). The food was great everywhere we went and, for the birthday meal, we headed out to the Das Meisterstuck to check out some genuine German Sausage!

Im not sure if it was down to the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall but the city was buzzing. Its such a lively place and people are out enjoying themselves 24 hours a day. On the night that they let of the balloons there was such a carnival atmosphere. The whole city must have been out on the streets and it was pretty moving to be amongst them celebrating the reunification and see how much the city has moved on since then; placing itself as one of the coolest city in Europe.

Staying at Michelberger hotel was a real treat. The hotel really reflects the bohemian atmosphere of modern Berlin. Well worth a long weekend break!
