This is a truly idyllic setting for a traditional Spanish farmhouse rich with character and charm. This delightful property, known as Villa Amapola, boasts understated luxury. With its white washed walls and terracotta tiles you can really appreciate the traditional nature of the farmhouse, whilst still enjoying the utmost comfort.
Having been lovingly restored, the cortijo sits in one of the most fabulous rural locations in Andalucia. Villa Amapola enjoys jaw dropping views over Lake Vinuela and down to the Mediterranean. Not to mention the vast expanses of spectacular countryside surrounding the house – Three acres of grounds filled with wildlife and natural beauty. Gorgeous olive trees and beautiful meadows, filled with wild flowers, surround the villa. With a wonderful private pool to take it all in from, you will find yourself loathe to even head inside the house.
However, when you do manage to tear yourself away, the interior is just as fantastic as the exterior. The impressive veranda must be appreciated before you do get inside. Decorated with pretty flowers, such as jasmine, as well as grapevines it is magnificent – utterly picturesque. There is also a lovely enclosed courtyard, which soaks up all of the sun. On top of this is a breakfast and dining terrace, with an impressive Moroccan mosaic table, accessed through French doors from the living room.
The terrace can also be accessed from the huge, spacious kitchen-diner, making it even more perfect for entertaining. Decorated in the classic white and terracotta, the kitchen is extremely well equipped with all of the best appliances. The living room is thoroughly charming and filled with plenty of activities should you need a break from the glorious sunshine. A large collection of paperback books can be enjoyed either here or by the pool. With squashy, comfy couches and even a rustic fireplace (for any cooler evenings) this room really does ooze Spanish charm.
The three bedrooms are all furnished with plush pillows and delicate stylish throws – unbeatable comfort. The master bedroom has a four-poster bed and is charmingly decorated in soft colours, giving it a really romantic feel. The second bedroom has a luscious king size bed and the third a soft double bed as well as a platform bed, accessed by a ladder (for any extra quests). All of the rooms have plenty of wardrobe space and wonderful views.
The pool area is spectacular. Tucked away from the house, through an olive grove, it has perfect privacy and unbeatable views over the lake and the sea, and even mountains in the background. With sun loungers around the side, a cane-shaded canopy and a pool shower this is a brilliant place to spend your days. It is even fabulous for night times too! Surrounded and lit by solar fairy lights it is really very idyllic.
Should you want a break from relaxing in your own private heaven, then the beaches are only half an hour away. Malaga and Granada are around an hour away for cosmopolitan entertainments. Nearby however there are plenty of excellent restaurants and a charming hilltop bar in yet another impressive scenic area. There is an abundance of history and culture surrounding the region of Andalucia, all of which can be easily explored. The Picasso Museum in Malaga is a favourite, followed by superb tapas in centro historico. Indulge in the hot springs at Alhama de Granada or take a day trip to Seville or Ronda. There is so much to do around the area, meaning you can be as busy as you like. Or, thanks to the villa’s amazing secluded and serene location, you can be as chilled out and relaxed as you like.

Leave a reviewJust back from a wonderful week at Villa Amapola - two adults and three kids aged 10, 10 and 8. We all loved it. The villa is everything you could want. Shane and Bea are great hosts. We had a good mix of chilling by the pool and adventuring nearby. Don't hesitate to book.

We had a lovely week at Amapola - the house is spacious, clean and cosy...and cool in the hot Spanish sun and the pool where we spent the majority of our time had a beautiful view, comfortable loungers and shade during the midday heat. What more could you ask for?! We thoroughly enjoyed lazy days by the pool and evenings on the terrace and would highly recommend.
