In the exclusive resort of Puerto Banus, west of Marbella, the Alcazaba Penthouse Apartment brings a touch of Arabian glamour to the Costa del Sol. There is a definite Moroccan feel to this delightful two-bedroom apartment, which is positioned amongst some stunning tropical gardens just a five-minute walk from the marina and beach.

The Alcazaba provides a scenic setting, with pools, fountains and inviting terraces alongside colourful, palm-filled gardens. The apartment has a large terrace of its own, with a candlelit dining area overlooking this peaceful scene. Among other facilities available to guests are four adjoining swimming pools, a pool side restaurant/cafe and a health club with heated pool, gym and sauna.

This colourful and contemporary corner apartment is kept cool with air-conditioning and features a spacious, open-plan living area. Your entertainment needs are more than taken care of, with satellite TV, DVD, an iPod dock and a home cinema and music system, and there is plenty of comfy seating.

An attractive and very well-equipped kitchen has an oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and water filter. A laundry area has a washing machine and tumble dryer. Hardwood worktops and a large ceramic sink add to its high-spec , fully equipped kitchen For cooler winter evenings there is a glass-topped dining table with seating for 6, although you may prefer to make use of the terrace and enjoy the sun as you eat – it’s directly accessible from the living area.

The beautiful master bedroom enjoys its own private terrace and large en suite bathroom - it also features a king-size bed and plenty of wardrobe space. The second spacious bedroom, a twin, also has an en suite. An additional sofa-bed can accommodate a fifth guest if needed.

Puerto Banus has built its reputation as a playground for the rich and famous, but you don’t need to be either to appreciate its beautiful marina looking out towards the magnificent mountains of the Sierra Nevada. There is plenty to do besides yacht-spotting, with bars and restaurants alongside designer boutiques and some upscale nightlife. The golden beach goes for miles in each direction, walk or hire a bike and cycle along the dedicated pathway to Marbella Town or San Pedro.

Marbella itself has a few surprises in store. As well as some golden beaches, you can enjoy the charming Old Town and some lovely parks, along with a host of museums and regular festivals.

There is a tennis club next to the Alcazaba and with more than 15 excellent world class golf courses in the region you will be spoilt for choice. For those searching for culture; day trips to Seville, Grenada, Cordoba and Ronda can be arranged.

Our family stayed in The Penthouse at Alcazaba for a week over Easter. I have to say, it was one of the most magical holidays we have had. The apartment is even better in real life than in the photos! It is so spacious and the decor is absolutely wonderful. The terrace was my favourite spot. I don't know what was better - breakfast in the sunshine, or evening drinks at sundown! Alcazaba itself feels like a botanical retreat. The gardens are so beautiful and the pools are perfect for kids and adults. It was SO peaceful. We were there in April and it wasn't busy at all. The poolside restaurant is really great for a spot of lunch and some rosé if you fancy a glass! All the staff are lovely too. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. A visit to El Corte Inglés shopping centre is a must! They have the most fantastic supermarket in there, which offers an incredible selection of fruit, veg, meat, fish; the lot! There are some lovely little bars on the beach just a short walk away, which offer delicious tapas and if you want something fancier, the marina boasts a wide range of eateries. Further afield, we enjoyed day trips to a local waterpark, Rhonda and Marbella Old Town. I can't recommend The Penthouse at Alcazaba highly enough. It feels like an oasis of calm and tranquility.....even with two small children! Thank you to Suze for all the fabulous tips and recommendations. We will be back! Jane
