Kitsch and unique indoor caravanning holiday in the trendy city of Bristol
This unique camping experience will appeal to all who love the retro side of the caravan and want to enjoy an urban break with a difference, in the heart of one of the UK's coolest cities. Towed Town Camping is an indoor caravan site consisting of five old-school caravans housed in a renovated warehouse. Each has its own separate square of astro turf and patio furniture which includes the ubiquitous stripy camping chairs and kitsch fringed sun umbrellas.
Set in a large communal room, with the caravans uniformly aligned as in a traditional campsite, there is plenty of space to have fun and make new friends. It's full of quirky, quaint touches, from the neon signs to the honesty bar situated in the television set.
A row of large windows sit opposite the retro vans and fill the room with natural light as well as offering views across the city and beyond. The caravans range from the cute Cleopatra, a cosy double with a comfy mattress, kitchenette and sitting area, to the three berth 'Elsie' which sleeps two in the king-sized bed while the bench easily converts into a single. They are all vintage - some date back to the 1960s while the 'youngest' is a 1993 model - and ooze charm.
All the vans have been decorated in a modern, yet retro style with little curtains and patterned wall paper. They all have kitchenettes with sinks and fridges, where guests can prepare tea and coffee and cold meals. Guests will also find television sets and basic wifi.
Outside the vans, specially-constructed private bathrooms, one per van, house an electric shower with retro shower curtain, toilet and sink. Towels and bedding are all included to make guest's stay easier and more comfortable. Situated in the fashionable St Phillips area, on the banks of the River Avon and by the Harbour feeder canal, there are plenty of great bars and restaurants within walking distance of the warehouse.
The city is one of the most vibrant in the country, with many great restaurants, coffee shops and bars, and lots of sights to discover. Towed Town Camping recommend taking a graffiti tour of the city (Dean Lane skatepark and the M23 flyover are both must-sees), taking a stroll over the magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge (regarded as Brunel's finest) and experiencing the city's cutting edge theatre scene - from the Tobacco Factory Theatre to the well-established Old Vic.
