The detail

In the heart of the Cotswolds, one of England’s most quaint, naturally beautiful and unspoiled regions, The Village Pub is a gastropub and inn brimming with good cheer, fine food, and super-comfortable rooms for individuals, couples and families looking for high-end but unpretentious lodgings with a serious menu. Choose from half a dozen bedrooms across two price brackets, all decorated internally to a high standard, all conveniently located across one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds.

Downstairs, traditional British pub fare with an emphasis on high-quality local ingredients is paired with exceptional wines and excellent Cotswold ales. The meat comes from Paddock Farm, just down the lane, and you can expect a whole range of Cotswolds food companies to be represented across the menu. The slow simmered bacon jam is a particular recommendation.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are smart but welcoming, making use of retro fixtures, timelessly classic furniture, and a range of print wallpapers, tiling and paint to create rooms that each have their own distinct aesthetic. For a small supplement, have a travel cot or smaller bed made up for a child, and come down in the morning for a dazzling Village Pub breakfast included with your stay. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the Relax Room and hydrotherapy pool at Barnsley Spa & Skincare Centre, with a free three hour pass for every 55 minute treatment booked.

The Cotswolds is a thriving destination for all aspects of country living, from shooting and birdwatching to golf and wild swimming. Be as active as you like, with a range of sporting and outdoors pursuits right on your doorstep, or choose to indulge by eating and drinking at some of the finest rural establishments in England. There are a range of events and activities organised through Barnsley House, including two seasons of indoor and outside film nights, and a clay pigeon shooting tournament, as well as a summer garden party and guided tour. Outdoor meals, champagne safaris, and numerous talks are also taking place throughout the year, and can easily be booked through your hosts.
