In the heart of a tranquil and beautiful forest stands The Sawmill at Glen Dye, a unique outdoor retreat encompassing several outbuildings and a restored 1950s Airstream Safari caravan. Set in the woods of the Glen Dye estate in Scotland, The Sawmill is a magical and romantic place to spend a few nights getting back to nature without compromising on luxury.
Housed in a lovingly converted 1800s forester’s cabin, the kitchen-cum-dining room is a freestanding wooden lodge where you’ll find a record player, various games, and all the books you need to enjoy a long weekend away. At night, snuggle up in the large bed which has been fitted into the Airstream bedroom, a design classic of 20th Century Americana, now brought to the forests of Scotland.
No detail or aspect of design has been overlooked, from the woodfired hot tub in the heart of the accommodation, to the outdoor shower which has been cleverly constructed in the bones of the former sawmill. With unlimited firewood for the duration of your stay, you’re bound to be warm and cosy regardless of the weather when you arrive. Cook in the high-end indoors kitchen, making use of the hot water plumbing and electricity, or opt for the Big Green Egg barbecue or on site RoccBox pizza oven.
The Glen Dye estate presents the opportunity to be remote, and enjoy the calm and quiet of the great outdoors, although guests are often pleased by how easily and quickly the estate can be reached by rail, air, and car. Aberdeen Airport is just 40 minutes away, and with prior notice, collection can be arranged. The estate is an outdoor paradise, with mile upon mile of outdoor track for guests to hike, climb, run and walk their dogs on. The river itself is popular with experienced trout fisherman and those looking to try their hand for the first time, and canoeists flock there after heavy rains to hurtle around the rapids and sharp turns. The world famous Balmoral is a short distance away, as are a number of highlands stately homes, gardens, golf courses, and restaurants.
