And, when the squall is blown in from the Irish sea, settle down in one of the region's cosy pubs and enjoy a dram or two and savour some of the wonderful local delicacies - Dumfires haggis has been named the best in Scotland.
And where better to rest-up after a day in the fresh Scottish air and sleep off any of those regional specialities than the Roundhouse in Dalbeattie? Quirky, stylish and comfortable The Roundhouse, situated in the heart of the Granite town of Dalbeattie, offers luxury accommodation which has been furnished and finished to the highest of standards. It sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms with two bathrooms.
Enjoy views of the quiet town and its surrounding hills from the large windows which allow the light to flood into the stylish and well-equipped open-plan kitchen and living room. In the main bedroom scatter-cushions add bright pops of colour to the crisp white linens which adorn the beds, which may be made up as one king or two twins. This room also has a lovely en-suite, which features an invigorating waterfall shower.
The second bedroom is by no means a lesser room and also features a flat screen television for watching your favourite movies from the comfort of your cosy bed. A large family bathroom is just next door.
The property is well-equipped to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. The television has Netflix, all bed linen and towels are provided, and there is WiFi and mobile phone coverage.
Dalbeattie sits in the beautiful Urr Valley and is just fifteen miles from the lively town of Dumfries. There are lots of pubs and restaurants in the town for those nights when no one wants to be the designated driver. Many visitors to the region get on their bikes and get to know the area from the saddle. The 7stanes Mountain Bike Trail in Dalbeattie Forest is just a few minutes from the property. Or take a tour of the many spectacular stone circles, many date back to 4000 years B.C. Cairnholy and The Twelve Apostles are just two worth taking a look at.
Visit during January to celebrate the birth of the Scotland's favourite poet Robert Burns on the 23rd. Nearby Dumfries hosts the Big Burns Supper festival featuring live music, film, comedy and more. Visit http://bigburnssupper.com for more details.

We just love Dalbeattie and the surrounding area. There is so much to see and do and we'll certainly be back again and The Roundhouse is in the perfect central location to tour the area. It had everything we needed for our weeks stay with mealtimes spent people watching from the giant lounge windows. :-) Despite the traffic noise we slept well in the super comfortable bed and would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation.

We stayed at the roundhouse for a week in August with our two children who are 12yrs and 8yrs and the dog, really didn't know what to expect as we had never stayed in an apartment before, all I can say is brilliant! We had an excellent holiday just what we needed, lovely and clean, lovely touch leaving towels and soap, great location, visited the cocoa bean factory where the boys enjoyed making chocolate, the outdoor park was open, creams o Galloway, Mabie farm, dunfries, loch Ken the list is endless! would definitely recommend to anyone and great having the park right next door kids thought that was great and parking available at the rear in the public car park. Only thing was it was quite noisy in the front bedroom on an evening with traffic but wouldn't put us off. Thank you!
