The detail

Located in the heart of the picturesque market town of Helmsley and surrounded by the spectacular landscape of the North York Moors National Park, these apartments are perfect for rural escapes with friends and family. The Pheasant and The Partridge are self-contained apartments in what was once the town’s bank. The apartments can be booked separately or together depending on the size of your group. The Old Bank has been beautifully renovated to create these contemporary apartments within a historic building. Inside, you’ll find a charming mix of modern and antique furnishings, original artwork and high-spec gadgets all creating a luxurious bolthole, packed with character. Outside, there’s a terrace with an eight-person hydro pool hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a long walk in the national park.

Step inside and any keen walkers will be excited to find the giant Ordnance Survey map of the area in the hallway, ideal for planning routes, and the heated rack which will sort out any soggy coats and boots in no time. Both of the apartments have open plan living, kitchen and dining areas which are beautifully furnished. Luxurious fabrics, an elegant chandelier and an impressive salvaged fireplace are set alongside the contemporary kitchens that also come equipped with a sleek wood-burning stove. If you’ve booked out both apartments, you have the option of gathering everyone together in one for big sociable dinners or enjoying a bit of downtime in your own space.

There are four suites across the two apartments, each with a luxurious handmade bed and an ensuite bathroom. You’ll find the Pheasant Suite and the Grouse Suite in the Pheasant apartment along with a mezzanine which can be used as another bedroom. This space is accessed via a beautiful spiral staircase and can be used as a living space during the day and has a comfy double sofa bed to quickly convert it into additional sleeping space. The Partridge Apartment features the Helmsley Suite and the Partridge Suite, both of which are luxurious double rooms.

Outside, each apartment has its own terrace with garden furniture where you can sit out and soak up the sunshine as you get stuck into a good book. Enjoy your meals outside or go for a dip in the impressive hydro pool hot tub which has a range of hydrotherapy settings, great for soothing any sore legs after a long day on the moors.

Helmsley is a wonderful location for escaping the hustle and bustle with a slower pace of life and plenty to explore. There’s a lively market square along with a range of independent shops, delis and bakeries to discover in Helmsley itself and some excellent places to eat. If you go a little further to Oldstead or Harome, you’ll even come across some Michelin Star restaurants. Visit the Norman Helmsley Castle, the walled garden and the bird of prey centre in the town. It’s a great base for exploring the Howardian Hills and the North York Moors National Park with routes perfect for ramblers of all levels.
