Gypsy Palace is a unique cottage steeped in history, famous world round as once being the royal residence of both Queen Esther and her son King Charles Faa Blythe. It is located in a quiet, peaceful valley in the Cheviot Hills and the views are nothing short of spectacular.
The cottage definitely has a traditional feel but, having recently been restored and rebuilt, it is also stylishly decorated and furnished throughout. The lounge has a cosy fireplace which creates a homely atmosphere and there is also a cute window seat which draws the eye to the breathtaking views over the valley. The dining area boasts a magnificent, 19th century, arched feature window with diamond panes and as you make your way upstairs you’ll also find another beautifully decorated, arched window which is positioned perfectly for capturing the afternoon sun rays.
The quaint bedrooms are located upstairs and are furnished to the highest of standards. The second bedroom is accessed from the main bedroom and both rooms have truly amazing views over The Bowmont Valley and Yetholm town. The Utility room downstairs has a charming stable door which leads out to the Selkirk stone patio area. This includes comfortable garden furniture ideal for those lazy days resting in the sun. There is also a tranquil summerhouse located in the southwest corner of the garden which is a converted railway waiting room. This has a cool, curved bench and provides yet another viewpoint of the remarkable scenery surrounding Gypsy Palace.
If you are feeling energetic and adventurous, you can find bicycles in the garden lodge which are free for you to use. You can also explore the local area on foot as the landscape is perfect walking country but if you’d like to go a little further afield, Holy Island, Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed are all only a short drive away from Gypsy Palace. The impressive city of Edinburgh is an hour’s drive away and has a vast array of attractions which cater to all tastes.
