Tucked away on a small farm in Abson, just north of Bath, this 17th-century dovecote is now a cosy hideaway that can sleep up to three guests. You can still see the beautiful original features of the building that has vaulted ceilings and the striking stonework from when this was used as a dovecote. The peaceful location makes this a relaxing countryside escape with views over the surrounding fields from the bedroom.
Step inside on the ground floor and you’ll find yourself in the open-plan kitchen and living area. The original stonework has been left exposed on three sides with the warm tones of the local stone creating a cosy feel. A big comfy sofa is set in front of an electric wood burner and a smart TV for relaxed evenings in and looks out onto the pretty private patio through some French doors. The kitchen is fully equipped for a self-catering trip and there’s a dining table for three. On sunny days, you could always enjoy your meals outside on the patio.
Head upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom. These are light and bright spaces thanks to the use of glass and the white walls and ceiling. These modern touches perfectly complement the walls that have been left exposed, there’s even a section of wall in the big modern shower. The main bedroom features a luxurious double bed and views out over the farm. There is a single bed on a mezzanine level above the main bedroom and bathroom and accessed by a ladder.
The Dovecote is set in a quiet spot on a small farm in the hamlet of Abson, just east of Bristol and half an hour’s drive from Bath. There are plenty of countryside walks to enjoy in the local area and the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is nearby with plenty of pretty villages to explore and welcoming pubs offering great food and drink. Spend the day in the vibrant city of Bristol with its flourishing arts and culture scene, or head down to Bath for an afternoon’s shopping and to discover Roman relics and beautiful Georgian architecture.
