Built into a steep and majestic hill sloping down to the Teign estuary, The Curlews is a 12-person self-catering house, ideal for large groups of friends and families looking for a coastal retreat brimming with contemporary comforts. The property benefits from panoramic views over the waterways, as well as boundless green space, making this a great choice for groups with multiple children and pets. Inside the house itself, you'll find a staggering array of modern appliances, from a brand new kitchen with a built in breakfast bar, fridge-freezer and the latest in culinary equipment, to a 4K HD ultra-smart TV for unforgettable movie nights.
The house is finished with clean, subtle surfaces and elegant art, furniture and fittings, with high ceilings and endless light throughout. Curl up on the sofa to watch your favourite movie or sporting event, or spend the evenings taking in the last of the evening sun from your very own 10-person outdoors hydopool.
Either dine outside gazing at the tides, taking advantage of the world-class BBQ and 12 person outdoor dining furniture, or head to the formal indoors dining room with its far reaching views.
Of the five bedrooms, two are downstairs with a super-king size bed and twin single respectively, and three more upstairs, each with their own direct access to outdoors spaces. In total, there are eight beds with easily enough space for 12 guests. The house was designed to take advantage of its enviable position, with every room looking out over this exquisite, unique landscape. Whatever the season, and whatever the weather, simply gazing out over the estuary and beyond is enough to cause your stresses to leave you, and that holiday feeling to sink in.
With a space like this to call their own, many guests feel little need to leave the grounds, spending their time watching the Sunday morning rowers propelling across the water, soaking in the tub with a book, and whipping up meals of sumptuous grilled local fish to be eaten alfresco. For those looking for a more active getaway, there is paddle boarding on the beach down below, as well as swimming, coasteering and countless walking paths snaking around the hills. For excellent food and beer, head to MoCoast right on Ness beach, the patio at The Ferry Boat Inn at Shaldon, or excellent local food at Coombes Cellar on the other side of the river.
