The detail

Perched on top of a magnificent hill in the Devon countryside, Gogwell is a spacious and comfortable six bedroom detached house, available for groups to rent on a self catered basis. Boasting several fireplaces, sleeping space for 14 guests, and offering a range of indoors and outside entertainment facilities, Gogwell is the perfect Devon holiday home for large families and friend groups looking to spend restorative and meaningful time away together in comfort and style.

Reached via lengthy private drive, Gogwell enjoys privacy and space from neighbouring homes. On the ground floor, the dining room benefits from oak floors and a wood burning stove, as well as veranda doors which open up onto the south facing lawn and gardens. On the same floor, a sitting room is the perfect place to relax with a book, game of chess, or glass of wine around the open fire. You’ll also fine the farmhouse-contemporary kitchen on this floor, with its large windows and all of the modern culinary amenities you’ll need during your time away. There is even a secondary prep kitchen space, with an additional sink, American style fridge-freezer and additional dishwasher.

Upstairs, the six bedrooms are configured to accommodate a broad range of parties, with four king-sized beds, and two bedrooms made up with twin singles. The master bedroom is particularly decadent, boasting an en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath tub and rain shower. Many guests use the substantial dressing room as an additional bedroom for younger children. Two of the other king-sized bedrooms also benefit from their own en-suites.

Outdoors, a covered seating area keeps you in the shade on even the hottest days, and of course the lawn is the ideal place for coffee, picnics and cocktails. Choose from croquet, badminton, boules, rounders and even swing ball in the expansive garden, and during the summer months you have exclusive use of the splendid outdoor pool, set up with symmetrical shallow ends for water polo.

Gogwell is ideally located to take advantage of a number of Devon’s key attractions, with the Grand Western Canal, Northernhay Gardens and the Royal Albert Memorial all within easy driving distance. Tiverton Parkway is the easiest rail connection, with regular services from Paddington, while Gogwell is served by a number of charming local footpaths. A particular recommendation is down to river Exe, and then following the waters to Bickleigh, stopping off for a pint at the delightful Fisherman’s Cott.
