In the idyllic setting of the Brecon Beacons, The Byre, once a cowshed, has been converted into a luxurious self-catering barn. With two bedrooms of equal size, it’s ideal for two couples or a family of up to five. Beautiful exposed wooden beams and flagstone floors fit in perfectly with the surrounding rural landscape and there are unspoiled views out over the Brecon Beacons and Pen y Fan through the large French windows. Enjoy the views from the comfort of the sofa in front of a roaring fire or stride out over the hills and explore some of the most spectacular scenery Wales has to offer.
Inside, you’ll find that The Byre has been beautifully furnished to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The white walls open up the interior creating a feeling of spaciousness while comfy sofas, wooden details and exposed brick keep it cosy. The open plan living area features a double-height sitting room with a ceiling crisscrossed by oak beams. Settle back on the comfy sofa in front of the wood-burning stove and enjoy the stunning views across the valley through the French windows. The stove will keep you cosy whatever the weather and even features an oven which can be cooking dinner while you’re out exploring the Brecon Beacons. There’s also a well-equipped kitchen and a cosy dining area in this open-plan space which means that everyone can still enjoy each other’s company, whether they’re playing a game in the living room or whipping up a delicious meal in the kitchen.
Head upstairs via the solid oak staircase to the first of the spacious bedroom suites which features a freestanding bathtub where you can relax while enjoying the views out to the Black Mountains. The second bedroom has French windows which lead out onto the patio with more spectacular views over the valley. Next to this bedroom, a large bathroom has a large bateau bath and a separate shower with fluffy towels waiting. Underfloor heating throughout will keep you warm and cosy at any time of year.
Outside, a patio runs the length of the Byre where you can enjoy a barbecue in the sunshine or just soak up the views. You can head out on lots of different walking routes right from the front door. There’s so much to explore in the Brecon Beacons, from mountains and hills to rivers and waterfalls. You could also explore by bike or even on horseback. Hay-on-Wye is close by, a beautiful market town, famous for its second-hand bookshops and the world-renowned Hay Book Festival takes place every summer. You can try your hand at a whole range of activities from fly fishing to windsurfing to sheepdog shepherding. Head back to The Byre after a busy day exploring for a hearty dinner and perhaps a board game in front of the fire.
