This thoughtfully designed and beautifully decorated lodge is situated in an old orchard with a large natural pond in a private and separate part of the host's garden. It’s part of a working small holding surrounded by sheep, pigs and chickens and would be ideal for a couple looking to take a deep breath and reset in a beautiful pocket of nature far away from the hustle bustle of daily life.
The lodge itself has a spacious open plan living room with the kitchen at one end. The building is extremely well ventilated, with roof lights and windows to all aspects. Huge picture windows bring in lots of light and wonderful views at any time of year and there is a calm and peaceful vibe to the space. Three elegant sofas give plenty of lounging areas with a big bookcase tying the room together and making it feel homely and comfortable.
The kitchen is bright and inviting, and is fully equipped with quality appliances and plenty of crockery. It’s a great place to cook and there are several nearby delicatessens and food stores where you can pick up some choice ingredients for a romantic feast or a long lazy breakfast. The lodge has a herb garden that you're welcome to use and and there’s a BBQ and outdoor furniture for al fresco meals.
The bedroom is very cosy and beautifully lit with a comfortable double bed made up with hypoallergenic bedding and Egyptian cotton sheets, guaranteeing a great night's sleep. There's an ensuite shower room with a rain drench shower and the hosts have supplied plenty of White Company toiletries for you to enjoy before wrapping yourself in a fluffy towel. During colder months the lodge is toasty and warm with underfloor heating and constant hot water. There are plenty of warm, cosy blankets to make lounging around super snuggly.
Outside the lodge is an absolute treat. Grab a morning coffee and head out into your orchard garden overlooking a large natural pond full of wildlife. You'll see dragonflies, damselflies, finches, tits and even the occasional visiting kingfisher. It's a haven for newts and toads, woodpeckers, owls and even the odd badger. Spend an afternoon reading a book with a chilled glass of wine and when evening comes lay the table and get the BBQ fired up.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and you are welcome to explore their beautiful gardens and meet the sheep and pigs. Just remember to close gates behind you!
The lodge sits on a quiet country lane and is just a 10 minute walk from a lovely village that has a butcher, a deli, a nice bakery and a corner shop. There's also a friendly cafe and a pub that does tasty food. There are yet more fab pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area so be sure to take a look around. If you like nature, then there are also plenty of delightful walking routes from your door, whilst those who enjoy wild swimming will love taking a dip on the the Great Ouse and the Cam.
The wonderful, historic city of Cambridge is also nearby and has lots to see and do.
