The detail

Rolling green hills and winding valleys set the scene for this quaint 18th century thatch-roofed cottage in North Devon. Original features and modern amenities come together to create a welcoming holiday home. Two bedrooms make the place ideal for families staying together, but it’s also cosy enough if you wish to stay as a couple. When it’s time to relax, you have a private hot tub and a two-person copper bathtub to choose from.

The open-plan living area is the first room of the abode, where you’ll encounter a soft leather sofa in front of a log-burning stove and a dining table for enjoying a spot of cream tea. If business calls during your stay, there is a handy desk where you can set up your laptop. When you are ready for dinner, a Sonos surround sound system means you can play your favourite soundtrack while cooking up a storm in the well-appointed kitchen. Accompany your meal with a drink fixed at the honesty bar. The ground floor is complete with a comfortable double bedroom and a separate bathroom with a bath and combined shower.

Upstairs, you’ll find the main bedroom, where a super-king size bed promises a soundless slumber, and an ensuite bathroom, where the freestanding bath is the perfect place to unwind after a long morning hike.

The home also boasts a secluded, Mediterranean-inspired garden with a seating area for sipping your beverage of choice on a balmy afternoon. Soak your cares away in the hot tub – a wooden canopy shelters it from the elements, so you can relax among the bubbles, whatever the weather. Towels, dressing gowns and plastic glasses are provided to add to the experience.

A pub, a community shop and plenty of country walks are on the doorstep, but if you’d prefer to take a day trip, Peppercombe Beach is a 40-minute drive away. Or why not explore the moorland of Exmoor National Park, reached in approximately 30 minutes by car? A 15-minute stroll takes you to Millbrook Estate, where you can take advantage of the BBQ hut, fishing lakes and private dining experiences.
