The detail

Set in a secluded spot on the Minto Estate, Lilylaw makes the perfect romantic retreat. This stylish and comfortable period cottage features a claw-foot bath with a view, a wood burning stove, a garden with a firepit and access to fabulous walks. And incredibly, the keys to a castle.

Drive down a private track and you’ll see this rustic stone cottage come into view. A former gamekeeper’s lodge, Lilylaw is situated between rolling parkland and a small wood. There’ll be nothing to interrupt your peace here, save a few birds and the resident sheep.

Inside the cottage, you’ll find a restful space in which to relax. Antique furniture sits alongside upcycled designer pieces, sumptuous rugs, carefully curated artwork and premium finishing touches such as Pooky lighting. The result feels both luxurious and intimate.

This single story space is almost entirely open plan. A cosy living area boasts a charming antique two seater sofa and armchair, a wood burning stove (logs provided), a dining table for two, a TV, DVD player and Amazon Fire Stick (guests must use their own subscriptions). A selection of DVDs, board games and books are also provided.

The bedroom area is separated by a half height privacy wall. Here you’ll find a king size bed, made up with high quality linens, and a claw-foot bath from which you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

An ensuite bathroom features a walk-in rainforest shower, hand basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Slightly removed, a well equipped kitchen offers a Belfast sink, four-ring electric hob, electric oven and a small fridge freezer - everything you might need to whip up a picnic or a romantic meal for two. From here, you’ll find a small boot room and access to a delightful garden and terrace.

Outside, the partially walled terrace, with seating and a firepit, offers the opportunity for al fresco dining under the stars. A large lawned garden lies to the side of the cottage.

Lilylaw is well placed as a starting point for many fabulous walks. Guests can request a key to Fatlips Castle, a lovingly restored Pele tower, which is a short distance from the property. Fantastic cycle routes and the wonderful Minto Golf Club are also nearby. The picturesque village of Denholm, two miles away, offers a butchers, post office, pubs and cafes.
