Beautifully situated in the southern most part of Catalonia nestled between the Ebro river and the border provinces of Valenica and Aragon this 13th century antique watermill is an indisputably stunning property with a variety of handy features and a host of local things to do.
Only accessible by a quaint forest track and easy to find on account of the waterfall running beside it La Molina Soterres stands on the side of the surrounding mountain rock (which actually serve as the far wall of the property). Owners Pilar and Jordi have rehauled the mill with a suitably rustic aesthetic in mind, this extending out to the 'morning terrace'- lovingly crafted with the captivating waterfall in mind and a sure fire way to kick start every day. In addition to this the owners have ensured the property is made a sustainable unit by installing solar panels, a generator and even refraining from including a washing machine in order to best protect the local micro climate (don't worry they'll be turning up every second day to take your laundry up to the local village).
One feature that will undoubtedly blow you away is that the existing channel system, meant for the watermill, has been redirected in order to supply the 45 metre-long swimming pool with fresh water tapped from the nearby spring. If this weren't enough then you can always take a swimming trip under the waterfall and admire the view from down below as opposed to your lofty terrace.
Situated only 7km from the village of Horta de Sant Joan, made famous by the fact Picasso himself lived here on two separate occasions, which is a great place to get a real taste of authentic Catalonia with local foods and traditional shops. Slightly further afield are a number of local vineyards, the nearby town of Tortosa and, of course, you have the pick of a number of stunning local beaches, and perhaps a little known city called Barcelona is not too far. All this combined with the astounding view at your doorstep make for an unparalleled holiday experience.
