You should know

Bed linen and towels are provided free of charge for the railway carriage, but are £10 per person for those staying in the roadman's van.
Unfortunately due to the narrow steps up to the carriage and the van, this property isn't wheelchair accessible.
The roadman's van is great for kids aged 5 and up.
Dogs are welcome at a charge of £10 per pet.

The detail

This traditional railway carriage in the Dorset countryside has been thoughtfully restored to create a truly unique holiday home. Complete with lovely authentic details like brass lamps and sliding sash windows it offers real old-fashioned craftsmanship coupled with modern luxury. Alongside the railway carriage is a roadman's van, which provides extra living space and sleeping accommodation.

High Cross Camping Coach and Living Van are situated in the little village of Whitecross in rural Dorset. They have their own small enclosed garden, sited behind the owner's garden. It's a rural, peaceful spot with beautiful views across the Dorset meadows and fields to the distant hills and spectacular sunsets.

Inside the railway carriage you'll find a cosy saloon area, with a little dining table, a carriage seating-style sofa and a stove to keep you snug on chilly evenings. When you're ready to turn in for the night, the carriage seat folds out into a large and comfortable bed for two. There's a fully equipped kitchen with cooker, sink, fridge and ample worktop space. The bathroom has a normal domestic type loo and an electric shower.

A few steps across the garden is the roadman's van. This is a pretty hut with a pastel painted interior, which offers extra living space during the day, with a table and seating. By night the van provides sleeping space and can be turned into either a double bed or two singles - perfect for kids.

High Cross is just five miles from West Beach, part of Dorset's spectacular Jurassic coast. There are several lovely beaches within a 20 minute drive, including Charmouth for fossil hunting, Lyme Regis and Burton Bradstock. There are lots of great walks in the area, around the village and the local countryside or along the South West Coast Path. There is plenty to do in the local area, nearby Bridport has antique shops, a market, plus lots of places to eat. Also close by are Mapperton House and Gardens and Abbotsbury Children's Farm, with gardens and a swannery.
