Tucked away in the pretty village of Knowstone on the edge of Exmoor in North Devon, Enfield House is a romantic rural retreat. This 13th century thatched cottage has been beautifully restored, with original features preserved and modern luxuries added. You’ll find this little cottage is packed with character, with the exposed wooden beams and inglenook fireplace perfectly complemented by contemporary furnishings. Enfield House is surrounded by rolling hills and river valleys and there’s even a Michelin Star pub five doors down the road.
Step inside and you’ll find yourself in the cosy living room with comfy sofas and armchairs gathered around an inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove. Spend evenings in front of a roaring fire with your feet up and a drink in hand after a busy day exploring Exmoor or the coastline of North Devon. Also on the ground floor, you’ll find the spacious dining and kitchen area with a big dining table where you can enjoy family dinners while planning the next day’s adventures.
Head upstairs to the three bedrooms and family bathroom. The large master bedroom still has a feeling of cosiness with sloping ceilings and exposed wooden beams. There’s a small single just through this room, making this space perfect for a small family. There is another double bedroom just across the hall next to the delightful bathroom. This has been cleverly designed, combining beautiful antique-style furnishings with luxurious, contemporary features. There’s a walk-in shower and a free-standing bathtub where you can lie back and relax after a day at the beach or walking in the national parks.
Outside, there’s a pretty garden area with some outdoor furniture where you can enjoy your meals alfresco in the warmer months. The garden enjoys beautiful views over Exmoor and you can sit out in the evenings and watch the sun setting over the hills.
North Devon is home to some spectacular landscapes and is a fantastic destination for keen walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are vast areas of remote moorland, dramatic coastal vistas with sweeping beaches and high cliffs, rolling hills and wooded valleys. There are many walking routes and Knowstone is located on the Two Moors Way, a coast to coast path from Lynmouth on the North Coast to Ivybridge in Dartmoor. After a long day exploring the countryside, reward yourself with a visit to the friendly pub just five doors down from Enfield House which has a Michelin Star.
