Perched on a green and wooded hill in some marvellous rolling Devon countryside, Cidermaker's Cabin is an exquisitely designed and built shepherd's hut available as a self-catering space for couples and individual travellers looking to spend time in nature. Newly built and brimming with elegant features, local art and first-class amenities, Cidermaker's Cabin is the ultimate getaway for anybody who wants to immerse themselves in nature without compromising on luxury and comfort.
The cabin itself is deceptively spacious inside, making good use of smart design, large windows and natural wood finishes to create a comfortable space which two people can easily coexist in. The cabin occupies a small footprint, but happily contains everything that a resourceful couple could need for a restorative time away.
There is a full kitchen, with a two-burner hob, oven/microwave and even a butler's sink, as well as ample preparation space, perfect for cooking up everything from a slap-up breakfast before you hit the footpaths to a romantic evening meal to be enjoyed with a glass of cider on the deck outside. Off the main space, you'll find a built-in king sized bed, occupying the entire width of the cabin, and benefitting from the same high vaulted ceiling which characterises the space.
The bathroom is contemporary, with a high-pressure rain shower heated by an external boiler. Throughout the interior, beaded lumber, neutral tones and subtle, whitewashed finishes come together to create an elegant and subtle space. When it rains, snuggle up inside with a good book and a cup of tea, and when the sun shines, head out in the surrounding region with a picnic, taking in the Exmoor light, warmth and unique flora.
Typically guests at Cidermaker's Cabin spend their time hiking in nature, before returning home to sit out on the timber porch with a glass of locally made cider before cooking a meal together using seasonal ingredients. For anyone who loves nature and being outside, the area is dreamy in all four seasons, and there really is nothing like coming home to your own cosy space for a hot shower, a cold drink, and another evening with only the sounds of the wind in the trees as you drift off to sleep.
While the cabin is secluded, the nearby village of Meshaw is a quaint and historic settlement, and is ideal for enjoying a pint of local cider in a charming pub, picking up local meat, vegetables, bread and cheeses, and taking in some history and culture. The beaches and coast are within easy reach, and there are dozens of footpaths, cycle trails and hikes nearby.

Leave a reviewThis is just a stunning place to stay, beautiful views, absolute peace and quiet and easy to get to everything this fabulous part of Devon has to offer. The Shepherd’s Hut has been fitted out to a really high standard, it’s warm and cosy (the wood burner is easy to use and certainly heats the hut up quickly) and the perfect place to relax after a day out. It really has everything you need, just bring yourselves and your dinner! The bed is lovely and comfortable and the shower pumps out plenty of hot water. The weather wasn’t quite kind enough to sit out round the fire outside but the views of the sunset from the bench inside the hut definitely don’t disappoint. If you like to get away from it all, this is definitely the place to come. Can’t wait to come back and recharge our batteries there again.

We could not recommend this place enough! Oliver went above and beyond to accommodate our requested dates, despite being away himself. The cabin was absolute perfection, equipped with everything you could possibly need. The surroundings and views were just beautiful. We also brought our German Shepherd with us and it also got her seal of approval. A few days away from life's hustle and bustle was exactly what we needed - We will most definitely be returning! Thank you :)

I had a wonderful 3 night stay in the Shepherds Hut. Beautiful location, so peaceful. The bed was so comfortable, haven’t slept so well in a long time. Very well equipped and clean. If you need to get away and recharge your batteries this is a perfect place to stay. I will be back. Thank you Oliver for making me feel welcome.

We fell in love with North Devon and perfectly positioned Cidermakers shepherds hut. Pictures do not give a justice to the hut and its surroundings. The view, wild meadows, birds, hills and more...... we didn't want to leave. Thank you Oliver! And for the best ever Sunday Roast in The Stag!

Get ready to breathe again! I came to stay in the Cidermaker's Cabin with my little dog. We had a wonderful few days from the moment we set foot (and paw) in the orchard - the cabin is set in beautiful countryside - fantastic views and wildlife to watch (bring your binoculars), very peaceful. Secluded enough to feel remote and private, but close enough to the owner's house to feel safe as a solo female traveller. The cabin is beautifully fitted out with every detail and more considered inside and out. While we were there my dog and I visited Quince Honey Farm (20 minute drive away) - really interesting tour and brilliant cafe for lunches or afternoon tea. We also walked Baggy Point (1 hour drive away) and went for lunch and a look round the shops in Croyde. So lovely to return to the cabin each day for sunbathing, reading, cooking and walking. An all round fab mini break with my furry friend. If you need some time away from it all, either by yourself or with the one you love, you'll love the Cidermaker's Cabin.

What a perfect secluded and private place. The cabin is beautifully designed with everything you need. Every little detail has been thought of to make use of the small space. The craftsmanship is obvious, such beautiful wood features. You really are in the heart of rural farming devon, no shops or pubs close by on foot. Dog friendly, but might not suit a big dog , a degree of flexibility is required if you need to get out of bed and have to climb over your bed companion! The owner Oliver respects your privacy but nothing is too much trouble if you need anything. All in all perfect. Thank you Oliver for our stay.
