Situated in the gorgeous French village of Beauville, Chateau De Montoussel is home to a British family that have breathed life back into this gorgeous estate. Three lovingly restored gites are nestled within the Chateau’s 20 acres - each boasting chic interiors and exquisite views. Sleeping between two to six people, all the gites retain their original features whilst showcasing their own individual style. Add to this a private swimming pool situated in a lawned garden - and adorned with French lavender - and you know you’ve arrived at the most idyllic of all French idylls.
The three gites sleep up to six people with Red Y Pink Gite sleeping two people, Mutley Gite sleeping up to four, and Hopkins Gite sleeping up to six. Situated next to the rather impressive (and utterly beautiful) Chateau De Montoussel, they are all fabulously located with spellbinding panoramic views.
The bright and airy gites have all retained original features - with tiled floors, impressive beams and exposed brickwork. The styling is meticulous, with all the gites having their own standout features - from the impressive four poster bed and woodburner in Mutley Gite, double height ceilings and imposing fireplace in Hopkins Gite, and the fabulous cerise pink French Louis XVI bed found in the aptly named Red Y Pink Gite.
The bedrooms are all luxurious affairs, with plenty of antique furniture and lavish little touches. All beds are made up with classic white linen and bright sumptuous textiles. And bathrooms come bursting with character - with large walk-in showers and plenty of fluffy towels.
Each gite has its own well-equipped kitchen and dining table - perfect for an intimate supper or celebratory meal. And again the attention to detail is second to none, with all boasting modern kitchen units, wooden worktops and large Butler sinks.
Step out onto your own raised decked terrace to enjoy the best of the sublime views. Each terrace has a delightful set-up with a dining table (complete with a pretty tablecloth), chairs and parasol. It’s the perfect space to enjoy a long leisurely lunch.
A few steps away from the gites you’ll happily discover a charming pool area. It’s an idyllic spot with sun loungers, parasols and delightful French lavender running along the perimeter - although all this takes second place to the incredible view. And as the pool is only open to guests staying in the gites, you can guarantee that it will be wonderfully tranquil.
If you can bear to tear yourself away from your own little slice of French heaven then the local area has plenty to offer, from quaint villages and local markets to the beautiful Canal Du Midi. And just 25 minutes away is the vibrant city of Toulouse. With its colourful old quarter there’s plenty of shops and cafes to explore - or why not head to one of the handsome plazas to simply sit and watch the world go by. Parfait.
The local area also offers plenty to do including tennis, paddle boarding, cycling, canoeing, wind surfing and a plenty of stunning walking routes. There are also lots of delightful cafes and bars nearby as well as a Michelin Starred restaurant. You can also enjoy some lovely local markets, the Carcassonne Castle, Lac St Ferrol, and Canal de Midi. The really brave can even take flying lessons.

Leave a reviewI would highly recommend the Mutley and Hopkins gites for families to stay in, they are incredibly comfortable and stunning plus the views are amazing! We were two families, each staying in a separate gite. The children were in heaven running between the gites and playing outside together a lot and we were able to take turns to cook, all sharing meals in one or other of the gites. The gites had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable with crisp white bed linen and the towels were thick and soft and there is a huge heated towel rail. The UK TV channels were another bonus on the dark January afternoons, especially for the the children. Will and Karen were so welcoming and helpful, due to their recommendations our days were packed full and well spent. Will even made restaurant reservations for us. We hope to return one Summer so that we can enjoy the swimming pool and eat on the terrace. This really is perfect self catering accommodation for a family or a couple of families who wish to holiday together in a beautiful and peaceful spot in France, conveniently placed between Toulouse and Carcassonne.

We have just returned from a week's stay in The Mutley Gite at the Chateau de Montoussel. The gite had been finished to a very high standard and was both spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting out on the terrace in the mornings eating our baguettes and croissants for breakfast in the warm sunshine looking across at the beautiful views of the local countryside. We also enjoyed days out to the old city of Carcassonne, walks along the Canal de Midi and the large sandy Narbonne beach which was largely empty because of the time of year. The weather was a bonus which was warm and sunny throughout. Our host Will was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We would highly recommend to anyone wishing to enjoy a relaxing break in a quiet, peaceful location.

The most relaxing holiday ever. From the moment you arrive and personally greeted by Will and Karen you feel at home. The accommodation is chic, well serviced and very homely. It is so beautiful and quiet with everything you need a short drive away- from hyper markets, restaurants, leisure facilities or the daily croissant run, everything you need is available- if you can't find anything just ask Will who is a fountain of local knowledge. Do yourself a favour and book today.

Unlike so many images you see on line showing your holiday destination, this lovely property completely lives up to all the beautiful pictures! It really is a special place. Wonderful location to explore the fabulous area; sunflower fields wherever you look, picturesque villages, the lovely Canal du Midi, the Lac St Ferreol nearby - great for swimming, paddle boarding etc, very relaxing with lots of cafes and restaurants..... and with regards to the property itself it really is a special place to stay. We stayed in the Mutley Gite closest to the pool; beautifully spacious and comfortable, really nicely renovated, fantastic views right from your bed, lovely balcony for dining.... I could go on and on. The location is so peaceful and yet it has everything a family could need. Our 2 boys loved it (aged 11 and 9). The boys used the pool every day, the table tennis table and just enjoyed being in such a relaxing and beautiful space, with so much on our doorstep for when we wanted to venture out. Will was great recommending restaurants and activities and even sorted a cake for my birthday whilst I was there. A holiday we won't forget in a hurry, and we hope to go back there again very soon.
