Adventures on the North Cornish Coast

21st April 2021

Charlie and Jess, founders of the Travel Project @the.travel.project take us on an adventure to the dreamy beaches and rugged coves of northern Cornwall. The first job? A plunge in the sea followed by a slap-up Cornish feast. Sounds good to us!

Adventures on the North Cornish Coast

Cornwall is an absolute feast for the adventure hungry.

Over the last couple of years we have embarked on our Achievable Adventure series, where we explore as much of the UK as we can. Through doing this, we have realised just how diverse and incredible this set of islands really are and so our list of places we want to go is only getting longer! In fact so much so that this year we plan on embarking on an adventure each week for a whole year to see as much of the British Isles as possible.

From the tiny islands off the North coast of Scotland to the Sillies, Snowdonia to the Wild Atlantic way we are going to be uncovering the best of British adventure, with the first stop most likely to be one of our absolute favourite corners of England, North Cornwall.

Every time we visit this part of the country it surprises us. Miles of rugged coastline, hidden beaches and jaw dropping ocean combined with a creative culture unlike anywhere else in the UK, Cornwall is an absolute feast for the adventure hungry.
Adventures on the North Cornish Coast

We are incredibly lucky to live on these islands with so much access to the ocean, so in our opinion it makes sense to make the most of it.

The first thing we will do as soon as we arrive is head to the nearest beach, strip off and plunge head first into the sea! This is a guaranteed, fast track way to wash the journey out of our system, wake us up and get us into a fresh frame of mind… and it’s free! We are incredibly lucky to live on these islands with so much access to the ocean, so in our opinion it makes sense to make the most of it. Yes it may be slightly/much colder than some of the European swims you’re used to, but once you’re in, you’re warm! Not once have we regretted a swim in the sea. What is more we will then reward ourselves with Cornish feast to warm us up. The Cornish food scene is incredible with locally sourced ingredients and progressive chefs making mouth waveringly good organic grub easy to come by.

You’ll be amazed what you find by just getting stuck in and exploring.

Our local tips? Get lost! This is very easy to achieve with the vast network of narrow country lanes and seemingly endless supply of hidden coves. That said, it would be irresponsible of us not to also mention that you need to make sure you know roughly where you are and know your tide times etc, but once you’re off you’ll be amazed what you find by just getting stuck in and exploring.

And finally think local - Cornwall is all about local artisans, produce, creativity and characters - by engaging with the local culture you will get a taste of the real Cornwall and have an experience that will last far longer than just your time there.
