Ysyhia, you say? That’s Greek for tranquility, and it seems a pretty appropriate name for this adorable ocean-view cottage on the island of Skopelos. This is a true couple’s getaway, with not a building in sight and barely a sound to be heard, yet little more than 1km away from the village of Glossa.

It’s around 20 minutes by boat from Skiathos to reach the island, which is as unspoilt and charming as you could wish for. Peaceful Ysyhia sits amongst olive and almond trees, looking out across the sea towards the mountains of Evia, which you can admire while lounging in the private pool. It won’t take long to make your way to the beach – beautiful Perivoliou is within 10 minutes’ drive.

Inside, your hosts have thought of pretty much everything, and can always be contacted should you need any assistance. You’ll find a well-equipped kitchen (probably with some little treats waiting for you), and an open-plan living and dining area. The cottage has air-conditioning, and all your utilities including a washing machine, iron and ironing board are there, along with entertainment options including TV, DVD, games and books.

A cute bathroom has a pebble floor and shower, while the cosy double bedroom’s French doors open out on to the pergola, so you can enjoy the amazing sea view as soon as you rise. Speaking of the pergola, this is a real highlight: you’ll find a table and chairs (because you will want to dine outside) and it’s just a few feet away from the private pool. Stunning by day, and truly romantic at night, when the sky is filled with stars and there’s not a soul around to disturb you. It doesn’t get much more relaxing than this…

Skopelos itself remains picture-postcard pretty, with the town of the same name around 30km from Ysyhia. The island coastline is a must-see: take a day cruise from Skopelos, hire a boat for yourselves, or give sea kayaking or paddle-boarding a try. Many enchanting beaches lie largely undiscovered, and if that little church on the rock looks familiar, it could be because Ayios Ioannis sto Kastro featured in the film Mamma Mia.

Loutraki and Elios are around 6 and 10 minutes’ drive away, offering quiet waterfront cafés and tavernas, while Glossa has been described as the most authentic spot on Skopelos, with ‘perhaps the finest views on the entire island’. Nice to be within walking distance, then…

With warm summer temperatures generally lingering well into October, Ysyhia is serene, secluded and truly sublime.

What a truly amazing trip we had. Yshia cottage, Skopelos Island, was our chosen destination for our belated honeymoon. It simply couldn't have been any better. Gorgeous property, stunning location and fabulous host in Matt. We got exactly as promised, peace, quite, sunshine and opportunities to explore. Matt organised a car for us (very grateful) and told us places to visit etc. He even took us to the supermarket to get some basic supplies for our first night!! The trip will forever be embedded in our hearts and huge thanks to Matt for creating Yshia and letting us create some wonderful memories. Sure to return one day.

Peaceful tranquil get away

We are back from 10 amazing days spent at this tranquil and beautiful retreat. The exterior gardens, shaded patio and pool were a joy, well done and well maintained and perfect for a couple to get away from it all. The location is very remote and therefore you are far from any bustle although only a 10 mins drive to Glossa for provisions, and restaurants. The sea breezes kept the temperatures to a very pleasant level and while there is A/C in the bedroom, fly screens throughout allows for a comfortable nights sleep. Matt was an excellent host, collecting us off the ferry, arranging and dropping us to the car hire. He also gave us good advice on things to do and places to go or eat. This is a rural and remote spot (which makes it such a lovely location), so there is plenty of natural wildlife around, which might not be to everyone’s liking if you’re not into bats flying around at dusk, but they are beautiful to watch with a sun down in hand sitting in the pool! We absolutely loved it and there is enough on the island for interest without the very tourist areas of other islands. We'd recommend to stay here for sure!
