The Details

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as escaping to a woodland lodge with your own private hot tub, surrounded by open countryside and the gentle calm of nature. Set on the Essex–Suffolk border, Toppesfield Hall offers the space, privacy and comfort needed to truly slow down.

Copper Beech Lodge, sleeping up to six guests, is ideal for couples travelling together or easy-going group stays with friends. Silver Birch Lodge, sleeping up to four guests, offers a more intimate woodland retreat, perfectly suited to couples or smaller groups looking for a peaceful escape.

Both lodges are tucked within a tranquil expanse of woodland, with open fields stretching beyond. Thoughtfully positioned for privacy, each lodge features a secure, fully enclosed private garden (approximately 1.2m high fencing) and is dog friendly, allowing four-legged companions to enjoy the countryside alongside you.

Copper Beech Lodge offers a spacious open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, flooded with natural light. Large French doors open directly onto the garden and woodland beyond, gently blurring the line between indoors and out while maintaining a high level of comfort and quality throughout. As evening draws in, retreat to the bedroom, close the shutters and enjoy a calm, uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Silver Birch Lodge features a beautifully designed open-plan kitchen, living and sleeping space, with large patio doors opening directly onto its fully enclosed, spacious private garden. The layout provides versatile sleeping arrangements, including a comfortable double bed, bunk beds and a sofa bed. A discreet curtain allows the sleeping area to be subtly screened from the living space, offering flexibility while maintaining a relaxed, open feel.

Step out onto your decked veranda and sink into your private hot tub. Low-level fencing has been carefully designed to preserve uninterrupted views across the surrounding woodland and countryside, creating a secluded and peaceful setting for both day and evening use.

Light the fire pit, pour a drink, unwind in the warm bubbles of the hot tub and watch the world slow down. For something more active, enjoy a game on the tennis court, hire bikes to explore further afield, or book one of our mindful and relaxation treatments for a little extra indulgence.

The surrounding fields offer scenic walking routes straight from the lodge, and the village is just an eight-minute walk away, home to a dog-friendly pub with beer garden, and a local convenience store.

Slightly further afield, the charming market town of Sudbury lies just 11 miles away, offering riverside walks along the Stour, as well as kayaking, paddle boarding and river cruises. The historic city of Colchester is 21 miles away, ideal for dining, culture and Roman history.

Venture into Suffolk and explore Constable Country, with its timeless landscapes and picturesque villages including Lavenham and the beautiful Dedham Vale. Closer to home, Hedingham Castle is just a five-minute drive, while Tuffon Hall Vineyard and the local gin distillery offer relaxed tours and tastings. For shopping and leisure, Braintree Designer Village is within easy reach, and water sports at Gosfield Lake are just 10 minutes away.

Stayed in the English Oak lodge as a couple with our dog for 3 nights and all I can say is perfect getaway from the city to a nice country retreat. Great balance between privacy and there if you need assistance with anything queries etc. Also would recommend using the massage service which they provide in the comfort of your lodge my partner said the lady was brilliant. Thank you for having us will definitely be back
