Nestled among lovingly maintained gardens, situated down a dead end country lane, Willows Rest is a three-hundred-year-old former barn, architecturally magnificent and now painstakingly converted into a spacious and pretty self-catering space. Judiciously updated to bring twenty-first century luxuries to a historic and charming building, Willows Rest offers everything you need for a restorative and magical time away in South Devon, whether you're a large family, a wedding party, or a group of old friends reuniting.
On the first floor, the main living space is truly extraordinary, with a high vaulted ceiling and exposed timber rafters arching high over a light and airy space, arranged on an open plan basis. From the kitchen space with its stylish cabinetry and ultra-modern cooking equipment to the other end of the room, where you'll find low sofas arranged around a wood-burning stove, everything about this central space is exquisite in its design and finishes. The tiling is elegant, the lighting is subtle and contemporary, and the atmosphere throughout is of clean lines and uncluttered space.
Below it, on the ground floor you'll find the bedrooms, five substantial and characterful rooms which share the house's strong aesthetic, each with their own distinctive style. Two have en-suite shower rooms for added privacy, and the main bedroom has its own large bathroom with a majestic rolltop bath tub where you can enjoy a luxurious soak after a long day. Making use of elegant wallpaper, freestanding furniture and subtle decor, the bedrooms are a real delight to occupy, in particular bedroom five, which opens onto its very own private courtyard space.
As well as the marvellous barn, there is space for two more guests in the cottage next door. This is a one bedroom self contained cottage that provides guests with a sense of peace and calm away from the main barn. The cottage is just as stylishly decorated as the barn and features a comfy lounge and a fully equipped kitchen downstairs. Upstairs sits a bedroom with a king size bed and luxurious bathroom with a bath and shower.
Step outside and you will discover the fabulous gardens and grounds of Willows Rest. Here you can light up the BBQ and dine al fresco, whilst the children run around in the enclosed garden. Guests are also sure to love the indoor heated swimming pool where you can enjoy a morning swim or play with the young ones throughout the day.
From the moment you approach Willows Rest and behold the grounds in full bloom, the light on the lawns, and the imposing stone barn itself, you can tell that you're going to be staying in a profoundly beautiful home. With its upside-down design, no compromise approach to interior decor and extraordinary gardens, Willows Rest really is fabulous.
While homebodies will have plenty to entertain them within the house and grounds, Willows Rest is ideally located for beach day trips, whether to dunes of Bantham or Bigbury with its island you can walk to in low tide. Families also adore the estuary at Salcombe, with its nearby town known for great pubs and fish and chips. Walkers can set off from the house itself, or drive to nearby Dartmoor to take in the rugged, dramatic topography with a lengthy hike. The New Inn pub is less than a mile away, and ideal for a pint of local cider and a great steak, while the towns of Totnes and Kingsbridge offer everything from fantastic tapas at Ben's to great Japanese food at Flour and Rice.

Leave a reviewWe recently returned from an Easter getaway at Willows Rest and had a truly fabulous time. The welcome hamper was very thoughtful and delicious. The property was luxurious, very spacious, well-equipped and extremely comfortable for our two families. The pool, hot tub, and play area proved to be an absolute winner for both adults and children regardless of the weather! The host, Raymond, was extremely helpful and responsive to our needs throughout our stay. Having on-site EV chargers proved very convenient and a real bonus. Overall, the stay at Willows Rest was wonderful and highly recommended. We can’t wait to revisit with family and friends!

Just back from a fabulous weeks stay at Willows Rest. Expectations were high prior to the visit and the reality of the stay really did not disappoint - it was excellent. I won't spoil any surprises but even the welcome hamper was amazing. From the outset of booking things started well with the owner Raymond being super responsive to queries I had and needs for setting up the property for our stay with regards baby equipment (they have that really well covered) - thanks Raymond. The property itself is just as the photographs show - very plush and comfortable with all you need for a big group to have a lovely stay. The kitchen is very well setup for cooking big meals and the giant table makes enjoying them all the better; especially with the wine fridge and separate rack right on hand! The bedrooms are all nicely appointed with comfortable beds and nice linens. The pool and hot tub just add to the luxury and really made for a great family stay. Walking directly from the house maybe isn't quite as interesting as heading to the coastal path but is doable and if you like a morning trail run that can easily be done especially if you're not afraid of hills! Parking was easy for at least 4 cars and if you are visiting with an EV you're all set with 2 untethered EV chargers available (at a fair per kWh fee). This is a real bonus for a stay in this area which doesn't have a huge number of public charging options.

We have recently returned from our week in Willow's Rest and enjoyed a wonderful stay. The main barn and adjoining cottage are absolutely stunning and beautifully furnished. The main kitchen and dining area in the barn are perfect for entertaining and is an ideal space for a large party or family. Especially when you include the lounge and the snug. The 'upside-down' living area certainly enhances the experience. Whilst the garden, play area, swimming pool and hot tub elevates the property to a whole new level of luxury! The large parking area and in particular the EV charging points are also an important feature for anybody travelling into the middle of South Devon with an electric car. The welcome hamper (and brownies!) was very thoughtful (and delicious!), whilst Raymond (the host) could not have been more helpful or friendlier either during our stay, or whilst responding to the numerous questions that were mailed to him prior to our arrival. All in all, a wonderful stay and I would certainly recommend Willow's Rest for the perfect get-away.

We had a fantastic time at Willow's Rest. We booked the barn with 2 families and we made some fantastic memories. The house is well equipped, very tastefully decorated and very comfortable . The house and gardens externally are also stunning. Though the house is very spacious , they have managed to create a very cosy feel. The pool, play area and hot tub are a massive bonus. The kids had a blast. The location is also beautiful with plenty to do in the surrounding areas for adults and children. I highly recommend Willow's Rest and would without doubt stay there again.

We’ve just had a wonderful long weekend at Willow’s Rest (the barn and the cottage ) with our whole family (8 adults and 5 small children). It was just perfect! Beautifully, tastefully presented for adults but also comfortable for children. The barn is well equipped with everything you need, beds are very comfortable and all bedrooms are roomy but cosy with fantastic toiletries. The outside space is lovely for the children to explore and for adults to lounge about on deckchairs while they know the little ones are safe. The pool is amazing and was well used by all, lots of equipment for little ones, good changing facilities. The cottage was a welcome escape from the crowd and was equally well equipped and comfortable (could have done with an instructions booklet in the cottage). Raymond (the owner) was really helpful and communicative and always on hand to sort out any problems. Raymond and Emily have made a beautiful place at Willow’s Rest.

What a wonderful week we have had at Willows Rest. This is the second time we have stayed - first being a long weekend in March 2020 but having a full week this time round was bliss. Great location with enough facilities to keep everyone entertained. The pool is perfect for both children and adults and the hot tub is very relaxing. There is nothing you need to think about as the owners have done that for you - every kitchen appliance you can think of and more. The beds were luxury, slept so well. The house itself was perfect for our family of children, teenagers and us grown-ups with the small cottage working well for Grandpa! Can't fault the place and we will be rebooking. Thank you for a great holiday.

We had a great week at Willows Rest with our whole family. The house is well equipped, beautifully decorated, spacious and extremely comfortable. Our kids loved the pool, play area and feeding the animals! There was so much to keep them entertained at the house but additionally plenty to do in the local area. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning at some point soon!

We had a wonderful week’s holiday in Willows Rest for our extended family, ages ranging from 70 down to a 2 year old. There was something for everyone to do. The kids loved seeing the animals, enjoyed using the tv room, swimming pool and play area, whilst the adults enjoyed the jacuzzi, sitting round the firepit toasting marshmallows & drinking prosecco, plus a barbeque, what more could one want. The barn was spacious & beautifully equipped with all the comforts & features one could wish for, with the added bonus for us oldies, a cottage to escape to when we wanted some peace & quiet.
