Discover the true meaning of an authentic hygge experience at this Scandi-inspired retreat in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just 10 miles from Edinburgh, in the Pentland Hills Regional Park, the romantic Westside Woodshed has wellbeing at its heart. Relax in the seductive wood-fired hot tub and breathe in the fresh country air, watching sensational sunrises and drying off beside the fire. Get lost amongst the craggy hillsides with their wispy purple heather or roam the twisted woodlands and rugged grazing pastures.

The Westside Woodshed is a design-led, couples' cabin set at the end of a bumpy, country track, on a remote sheep farmstead. Its Nordic blueprint is an architectural triumph and it's built with silvered timber cladding to blend in with its untouched, natural setting.

Its minimalist interiors ooze with a cool, laid back vibe and fuse understated, clean design with comfort and style. Expect heated concrete floors and bare wood walls, alongside creative pieces and plush fur throws. Vivid splashes of colour compliment the soothing hues and are joined by statement lighting and local artwork.

Downstairs is the comfy living area with its double-height ceilings and crackling wood burner. A sophisticated sofa is perfect for curling up with a book, while large glazed doors frame the stunning country views. Snuggle up by the fire on those cold, wintry nights or throw open the doors and bask in the warm, summer sunshine. A TV and WIFI are on-hand for quiet evenings-in and can be followed by starlit nights in the bubbling, outdoor hot tub.

The cosy lounge is open-plan to the handcrafted kitchen, which is complete with state-of-the-art appliances and a quirky designer table. Rustle up gourmet meals with the fresh, local produce, sipping lavish hot chocolates or evening tipples.

Climb the wooden staircase up to the mezzanine level to find an uber-snug bedroom hidden in the sloped rooftop. Sink into the alluring king-size bed with its sumptuous bedding or admire the timeless vintage furniture and locally-crafted cushions. A modern bathroom offers a refreshing wake-up call and features sleek slate tiles and a steaming rain shower.

Spend chilled-out days exploring the open countryside, hiking the Pentland Hills or biking the ancient woodlands. Discover tranquil coastal towns with their secluded sands or medieval castles with crumbling walls. There are adventures aplenty, including zip wires and climbing, along with a myriad of interesting wildlife for nature-lovers. For a more relaxed day, head to the bustling streets of Edinburgh, famous for its rich culture and historic architecture.

We had the most wonderful few days at this beautiful cabin/cottage! We arrived quite late the first day but the owners were really kind, flexible and helped arrange it so that we could still access it when we got there. The place was just amazing -felt really remote with gorgeous scenery, cosy, well equipped, right on the doorstep of some stunning walks across the Pentland Hills but also close to Edinburgh (we had a great day out on one of the days). We had everything we needed for cooking but they left lots of tips on shops/food delivery/restaurants and eateries if we had wanted to eat out or get food in. The hot tub was a great addition - we really enjoyed using it (and because it’s wood-fired it smelled amazing too) - and the owners were helpful if we had any questions on its use. Thank you - we’ll be back!
