Villa Cigalea is a gorgeous stone built villa, deep in the sleepy and sun-baked countryside of rural Provence. It sits within acres of incredible lush green gardens, with sloping terraces of matures trees, fountains, verandas shaded by wisteria-covered pergolas and a swimming pool with sun loungers alongside.
The inside of the villa is just as beautiful as the outside, with the air of a chic country mansion. The style is luxurious but relaxed, an eclectic mix of art, antiques and comfortable, modern pieces. The living room is grand but welcoming, with an interesting collection of traditional and contemporary paintings and sculptures dotted around and big patio doors opening out onto the fabulous gardens.
The kitchen is modern and well kitted out with everything required to whip up a delicious dinner. You'll be able to pick up baskets-full of fresh produce at the legendary market at nearby Saint Remy. A dining room with a large family table adjoins the kitchen. You'll also find plenty of shady spots in the gardens to enjoy lunch, or a glass of something cold.
Villa Cigalea sleeps up to nine people in five bedrooms, all en-suite. Four bedrooms are doubles and one is a single. All are chic and decorated in their own individual style, filled with soft beds. shelves of books, paintings and French windows overlooking the gardens.
The villa is surrounded by the famous landscape of Provence, with its mountains, lavender fields, cyprus and olive trees. This is Van Gogh country, he painted more than 150 pictures in the countryside surrounding the town of Saint Remy, which is a short drive from the villa. This charming little town is one of the gems of Provence, with galleries, churches and restaurants to be found in its historic, winding streets and the ruins of a Roman town nearby.
