Upper Crumble is one of two charming cottages that have been created from the shell of a former 17th Century Grade II listed barn. This pretty and comfortable bolthole is situated near the medieval town of Cartmel in the Lake District and has its own private hot tub in the landscaped courtyard for added luxury.

This marvellous cottage is ideal as a romantic retreat for couples who are looking to escape to the country. Spend your day wandering the outstanding countryside that surrounds you, then hop in your hot tub with a glass of wine and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet in style.

The open plan, main living space is filled with natural light thanks to its large windows, and there’s a wood-burning stove to keep you nice and toasty in the colder months. You’ll be pleased to hear that the interior design of the cottage stays true to the local style, with whitewashed walls, rustic exposed beams and that wonderful farmhouse feel.

Guests can cook up a tasty meal in the well-equipped kitchen that comes complete with a three-way microwave combination oven, in addition to a full range of similarly high-end kitchen appliances.

Upper Crumble is perfectly positioned for anyone who wants to visit the exceptional countryside that the Lake District has to offer. Ramblers and outdoors enthusiasts will have plenty to see and do during the day, before relaxing in true comfort back at the cottage after a long day out and about.

The topography on display in the national park is world famous and is a huge attraction for walkers and artists alike. However, there are also an increasingly varied range of additional things to do in this pretty corner of the world. Make sure you hop on a boat and enjoy seeing Windermere from the water.

The nearby Cartmel is a great place for food lovers and has some excellent restaurants on offer. Simon Rogan’s two Michelin Star restaurant L’Enclume is situated there, as well as sister establishment Rogan & Co, which has just won its first Michelen star. The Cartmel Coffee is also worth a visit, before heading to the high-end artisanal Unsworth Yard market, with a micro brewery, cheese shop, and wine bar.

Great wee cottage in a stunning location. We had a fantastic time in idyllic surroundings. All we needed was at hand in the kitchen; the shower room was beautifully fitted out and the huge comfortable bed was as luxurious as you could wish. Sarah and Stew are great hosts, and they are accomplishing marvels in creating a mini nature reserve and beautiful gardens in the fields around the house. There are loads of walks in the area and plenty of places to go and visit if you wish. We would have happily taken the cottage as it stood, but throw in the private Hot Tub and it's a no-brainer.

A perfect bolt hole for two in the Lake District. The cottage is fitted to a high standard with all you might need for a few days break. We had a 4 night stay during wonderful weather. Great secluded hot tub. The cottage is just 1 mile from the quaint village of Cartmel - fantastic Michelin restaurants, pubs, cheese shop and brewery. The owners provided us lots of useful recommendations for things to do in the area too.

We had a wonderful mini-break at Upper Crumble. The cottage is wonderful- sparkling clean and really well-appointed. It has everything that you could wish for in the kitchen, whilst maintaining a clutter-free minimalistic style. There is a fabulous little wood-burning stove, which really adds to the experience and thoughtful little touches throughout are really great -such as setting the first fire so that all you have to do is drop a match in (& then next time you know the secret to laying it perfectly!). The barn has been lovingly converted with such attention to detail. Luxury in simplicity! And then there is the hot-tub... such a decadent treat to relax in the water with the crisp winter stars above and views over the frosty fields! The owners, Sarah and Stewart are incredibly friendly and helpful. They are are keen that you enjoy the privacy, beautiful setting and relaxation that Upper Crumble affords you but also on hand if you want with helpful suggestions and recommendations for walks, restauraunts etc. There is LOADS to enjoy in the area, you will not get bored! Cartmel is only a mile, about a 20 min walk, from the cottages and full of places to eat and drink. The area is criss-crossed with footpaths and the coast is also within walking distance. You dont really need to go much further than the immediate area but if you wanted, both Coniston and the foot of Windermere are only about 30mins drive away, with the south western fells in particular also easy to access by car. Upper crumble is perfect for being really active and getting some good walks in, or just chilling by the fire and hot-tub. Total winner and we cant wait to visit again!

We had a fabulous stay at Upper Crumble. The cottage had everything that we needed and Sarah and Stewart are a lovely couple and happy to give any advice. Cartmel is a stunning little village, and if you enjoy food, drink and walking, it is a perfect place to stay. It would also be perfect, if you just wanted to escape for a few days, as it is very peaceful. Eating: Be sure to book one of Simon Rogan's restauarants well in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment. We went to Rogan and Co and the service and food was amazing, just what you would expect in a Michelin star restaurant. We also ate at the Cavendish Arms and I had one of the best vegetarian meals that I have had out in a long time. (That was before Rogan and Co's of course). Do check the websites of any restaurant / pub /eatery in the village when planning meals out, as they are open on different evenings and provide different experiences. At Unsworth's yard for example, you can order pizzas on some evenings, if you fancied something more relaxed, or just wanted a takeaway. It is a good mile walk down into the village, but it is a lovely walk. The return journey is slightly uphill, so it is a good walk after your evening meal. You are provided with taxi numbers, if you do not fancy the walk back. My husband is not a hot tub fan, but he was in it every day. It is very private and has a wonderful outdoor shower. The hot tub area is very beautiful, especially late at night when the stars are out, so it is worth the extra money. Things to do: Grange over Sands is a short distance away. It is only a 10 minutes drive and has lovely views of Morcambe Bay. Walks - you are spoilt and there are many guides and books in the cottage to help you choose. We fancied something different, so used the opportunity to experience Segways. That was a lot of fun. We had a lovely holiday and we were blessed with sunshine. We would definitely recommend Upper Crumble Cottage to others.

Loved every single little thing about our stay. The cottage is stunning and the hot tub is perfect. Thank you, and well done on being one of the very few who’ve got it just right. Perfect in every way. Highly recommended you to everyone...5* (even Living magazine agrees so I can’t be wrong!).
