You should know

• If you are travelling with a baby or toddler the owners can provide a cot or toddler bed.
• Guests are welcome to bring one or two small to medium sized, well behaved, dogs. There is an additional charge of £35 and you will need to let the owners know when making your booking.

The detail

These Tree House Retreats are hidden within an ancient beech wood at Cowdray, a 16,000-acre natural playground, home to a fabulous selection of outdoor activities, country pursuits, as well as wellness and creative classes. They are set along the edge of private woodland in a secluded yet convenient location at the heart of the estate with the historic town of Midhurst a short walk away. Considered and carefully sourced items fill the homes and vintage furniture sits alongside contemporary art and everything has been carefully chosen with provenance, durability, story and style in mind.

An open-plan living room and double bedroom create an airy and luxurious space for two while the extensive glass doors and balcony, just metres from the forest canopy, allow birdsong and light to flood in and connect you with the rhythms of the forest.

In the chic yet rustic sitting room, you’ll find a selection of guidebooks and maps to help you live like a local. When you have finished exploring, you’ll find classic games to entertain you, plus a little library to lose yourself in. Guests wanting to stay connected will find a flat-screen television, bluetooth speakers and super-fast WiFi.

Each tree house retreat has one spacious double bedroom with a sumptuous super-king size bed, one luxurious bathroom with a walk-in shower and an outdoor bath on the terrace offering you the ideal place for a luxurious soak under the stars.

The well-stocked kitchens include an induction hob, oven, grill, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and fridge freezer plus a full set of utensils, glassware, tableware and crockery. You’ll even find a welcoming breakfast hamper containing everyday staples plus treats from the Cowdray Farm Shop to start you off preparing delicious meals in the treetops.

Each tree house has a wraparound balcony with seating and an outdoor bath, perfectly positioned to enjoy the evening sunset over the famous polo fields and dramatic backdrop of Cowdray Ruins. This really is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic evening over a bottle of wine. Rugs and picnic blankets are available for cosy nights of stargazing and if you’d prefer a spot of yoga, the balcony amongst the trees is a perfect place for your daily practice with the mats provided.

Cowdray is the ideal location for exploring the South Downs National Park - a haven of rolling hills, perfect pubs, countryside creativity, fabulous festivals and the centre of the exciting English wine scene. It’s just a short stroll across the famous polo fields to the award-winning Cowdray Farm Shop and the historic market town of Midhurst, or a short drive to the exceptionally pretty town of Petworth, full of galleries, antique, independent shops and restaurants.
