The details
Tucked away on the tranquil banks of the River Endrick, just minutes from Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, The Snug is a beautifully restored stone cottage designed for deep rest and gentle adventure. From the moment you arrive, life slows. The air feels fresher, the landscape stretches out around you and the quiet rhythm of river, trees and hills takes over.
Inside, the cottage blends rustic character with contemporary comfort. Downstairs, the light-filled living space is warm and welcoming, decorated in cheerful modern tones that make it easy to relax after a day outdoors. Sink into the sofa with a dram or a good book, light the wood-burning stove and let the fire crackle as evening draws in. There’s a smart TV for cosy nights in, along with Alexa for music and local tips.
The handcrafted oak kitchen is a real highlight, with handmade copper tiles, ambient lighting and everything you need for easy self-catering. Cook up slow breakfasts or relaxed suppers, then gather at the oak breakfast bar to eat, chat or even work remotely, with plenty of plug points and natural light.
Upstairs, the bedroom feels wonderfully serene. A king size bed with a hotel-quality mattress, premium linens and plump pillows promises long, restorative sleep. Wake to sweeping views from the dormer window across the River Endrick, the Campsie Hills and your private garden beyond. The bathroom is equally indulgent, with a large modern shower looking out over open fields and a deep bathtub beneath a skylight for stargazing soaks.
Step outside and you’ll find The River Hideaway, your own secluded garden space tucked into woodland beside a gently flowing stream. With a covered wooden shelter, wood stove, hammocks and picnic table, it’s a place where hours drift by unnoticed. Light the BBQ, stretch out with a blanket and a book or sit by the fire as dusk settles over the river.
When you’re ready to explore, some of Scotland’s finest scenery is right on your doorstep. Walk sections of the West Highland Way, cycle quiet country routes, head out for wild swims or spend days discovering lochs, hills, distilleries and historic towns. With pubs, cafes and local shops close by, The Snug offers the perfect balance of seclusion and connection in the heart of the Scottish countryside.

Gorgeous luxury retreat for two. We loved the location, it's near loads of great places but feels off the beaten track, and all the thought and care that had been put into making The Snug so special. I will miss the bed and that bath! Lovely responsive hosts as well who live next door.
