The Sheep Station offers two guests a spectacular Hebridean escape, discreetly nestled into a hillside on the west coast of the Isle of Harris. With uninterrupted views across the Atlantic Ocean towards Taransay and the Harris hills, this beautifully designed hideaway puts some of the Outer Hebrides’ most dramatic scenery right outside your window. Better still, the sands of Traigh Mhor are only a few minutes’ walk away across the dunes and, in summer, the colourful machair.
Inside, the single-storey, larch-clad retreat is deceptively spacious and beautifully considered. The open-plan living area has been positioned to make the most of those incredible views, so whether you’re preparing breakfast, lingering over dinner or simply curling up on the sofa, the wild Hebridean landscape is always part of the experience. The fully equipped kitchen features Smeg appliances, a Nespresso machine and Nutribullet, while the dining table offers a fabulous spot for meals overlooking the ocean.
After a day exploring Harris, settle into the sumptuous velvet sofa and warm up beside the wood burning stove. Sky TV, Full Fibre Broadband, Bluetooth radio, board games, books, maps and local guides provide plenty of entertainment when the weather encourages you to stay indoors. There are even binoculars provided, perfect for scanning the skies for eagles or keeping an eye out for wildlife along the coast.
When bedtime arrives, retreat to the gorgeous bedroom where a super-king size bed with a luxurious Aireloom mattress awaits. Goose down bedding and Egyptian cotton bedlinen add an extra layer of indulgence, helping ensure you wake refreshed and ready for another day on the island.
The marble bathroom is every bit as luxurious, with underfloor heating, a separate rainhead shower and an eye-catching pink freestanding bath. Sink into the bubbles after a windswept beach walk, wrap yourself in a fluffy robe and enjoy having nowhere else to be. Bamford amenities, slippers and soft towels complete the experience, while a separate washer and dryer are handy for longer stays.
Harris itself is made for adventure. Walk straight onto the Hebridean Way, wander down to Traigh Mhor or explore the island by bike or car. Take a boat trip in search of seals, dolphins and puffins, venture to Taransay or St Kilda, visit St Clement’s Church and discover local Harris Tweed weaving. The galleries and lochs of the Golden Road are also well worth exploring, as is the neighbouring island of Lewis.
