The Old Mission Church is found in the picturesque village of Paxford, set amongst the idyllic backdrop of the Cotswolds. Dating back to 1866, the historic church has been impeccably renovated and transformed into a luxurious holiday retreat for four, as seen on George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations. The magnificent home is the ideal base from which to discover the glorious countryside, charming market towns and quaint villages of the Cotswolds.
The property perfectly blends contemporary design with the original architecture and features of the church. Upon entering, you’ll be wowed by the stunning stained-glass windows and high vaulted ceiling. The open-plan interior is as stylish as it is comfortable, with exquisite attention put into every detail. It has been furnished with a premium mix of vintage, antique and bespoke pieces, with fixtures and fittings of the highest standard.
There’s plenty of space for guests to unwind inside the home. One lovely place to relax is the lounge, with a comfy chaise sofa, TV with Amazon Fire Stick and a log-burning stove to keep you warm and cosy on chilly nights. When it’s time to eat, guests can make use of the bespoke kitchen, fitted with modern appliances and everything you could need to cook up a storm. Meals can be enjoyed around the large central island or in the chancel dining area at the back of the room, underneath the beautiful stained-glass window.
The Old Mission Church features two delightful bedrooms, both boasting sumptuous king size beds, cloud soft pillows and premium bedding. The ground-floor bedroom benefits from a blend of new and authentic features. The bespoke headboard features panels reclaimed from the church’s pulpit, whilst an elegant free-standing bath adds a touch of opulence. It also boasts a stylish ensuite with a walk-in shower, washbasin and WC. The second bedroom ‘The Pod’ is a real highlight of the stay. An open tread glass and steel staircase leads up to the ‘floating’ mezzanine bedroom, nestled under original wooden beams. A large glass window provides views of the living space, with a voile curtain for privacy.
You’ll also find an abundance of outside space, including a gorgeous, landscaped garden and two patios. The south-facing patio with painted pews is the perfect place to enjoy an aperitif in the early evening sun, whilst the rear patio is the best spot to catch a sunset. The surrounding fields and wildflower meadows are ideal for evening strolls and dog walks.
Paxford is a small and friendly village, ideally positioned for access to the market towns of Chipping Campden and Moreton in Marsh. The village is surrounded by miles of countryside, with countless public footpaths and trails waiting to be explored right on your doorstep. Worked up an appetite from all that walking? You’ll be pleased to know that there is a great selection of pubs and restaurants in the local area, including the award-winning Ebrington Arms within walking distance.

Simply outstanding! Everything about our stay at The Old Mission Church was flawless from start to finish. Geoff and Julie have transformed this beautiful building into a premier place to relax and unwind whilst maintaining the characteristics with the most sympathetic renovation imaginable. From the second that you arrive it is clear that every detail of the renovation was meticulously considered in order to retain its history and standing within the village! As for our hosts? amazing people, it was my wife's 70th birthday and they simply couldn't have done anymore to make it a special stay that we will never forget, absolutely nothing was too much trouble and we arrived at our pristine accommodation to be greeted by Julie cradling the most delightful homemade Victoria sponge and a lightbox wishing my wife a happy birthday. The fridge contained a cheese selection, butter, milk, fresh orange and a bottle of Prosecco and there was also fresh eggs, granola, bread and crackers. It was February and it rained! It didn't bother us one jot, we got out for a couple of hours every day and visited nearby Moreton In Marsh, Stowe and Broadway and then headed back, lit the log burner, chilled and made the absolute most of the church. We walked the dogs across the adjacent fields every afternoon, absolute bliss. It really isn't difficult to see why this property and its wonderful hosts have never had anything less than a 5-star review. Thank you Julie and Geoff for this beautiful restoration and for sharing it with us. We will definitely be returning.

We loved The Old Mission Church. The interior is simply stunning with every amenity. The fixtures & fittings are of the highest quality, and it was a real pleasure to stay there. Probably our fault but we hadn't realised about the lack of parking (you have to park across the road) and the very small garden which isn't ideal with dogs. However you can walk a very short distance along the road to an adjacent field. That said these weren't major issues just points we should probably have checked out ourselves before booking.
