Found on a farm just a few miles from Plymouth, The Mews is one special Devon getaway. Perfect for 2 – but possibly for 3 – this converted stone barn is secluded and stylish with a delightful garden and countryside setting.
The wonderful wood-fired hot tub won’t escape your notice, and the private patio is a fine spot to enjoy breakfast as the wildlife around you awakens. The bedroom of the cottage opens out directly onto the patio too – handy if you want to glide from bed to tub with ease.
With a king-size bed dressed with high-quality linens, the bedroom is accompanied by an equally appealing bathroom, complete with an antique claw-foot bath. All this is accessed via a spiral staircase from the living area below.
Downstairs, you can relax by the wood-burning stove, with a widescreen TV, hi-fi and DVD player to keep you entertained. The sofa converts to a bed for a third guest if needed, and there’s a dining table in this open-plan area too.
The kitchen is compact, yet packs in a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, oven… oh, and a Nespresso coffee machine too. You’ll find milk in the fridge and herbal tea in the cupboard. There’s also underfloor heating keeping the ground floor warm and cosy.
South Devon has no shortage of places to visit, and The Mews is well-located as a base for your daily excursions. You can head out on foot to the coastal path which will take you to Mothecombe Beach, or try nearby Dartmoor – a map of recommended local routes is provided at the cottage.
Plymouth is home to Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, as well as the Mayflower Museum, National Marine Aquarium and numerous art galleries. Just a short drive away, the city has all the amenities you may need, as well as an abundance of restaurants and cafés forming just part of a creative local food scene.
Then again, with that hot tub waiting, you might just want to head back to base early… Effortlessly cosy, The Mews is certainly a place that’s well worth your time.
