The details

Sitting beside the striking West Usk Lighthouse, The Light-Keepers Lodge is a wonderfully romantic hideaway for two, complete with fabulous estuary views and your very own private hot tub. Spend lazy evenings soaking beneath the open sky, watching the changing light across the water before retreating inside to your cosy bolthole for the night.

The lodge is arranged much like a stylish studio apartment, with everything cleverly brought together in one inviting space. At its heart is the grand four-poster super-king size bed, providing a suitably luxurious spot to curl up after a day exploring this lovely corner of South Wales. Wake slowly in the morning, take in those watery views and enjoy the luxury of having nowhere you need to be.

There’s a handy kitchenette where you can prepare simple breakfasts, lunches and snacks during your stay. Pick up some local produce and enjoy a leisurely lunch together before heading back outside to make the most of the views. The cute ensuite shower room features a rainfall shower, perfect for freshening up after a long coastal walk.

Outside, the lodge has its own private terrace where you can sit with a morning coffee or an evening drink and gaze across the estuary. The real treat, however, is the private hot tub. Sink into the warm water after a day out, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and watch the skies change above the estuary as evening rolls in.

When you do fancy venturing out, you’re nicely placed for exploring South Wales. Join the coastal path just outside or stroll along the sea wall to The Lighthouse Inn, around 15-20 minutes away on foot. Nature lovers can explore the nearby wetlands while walkers and mountain bikers have plenty of routes to discover around Cwmcarn Forest Drive, Fourteen Locks and Twmbarlwm. Historic days out include Tredegar House, Tintern Abbey and the castles at Cardiff, Caerphilly, Chepstow and Raglan. Newport is around 10 minutes away by car while Cardiff is approximately half an hour away, putting the capital’s restaurants, museums, shops and attractions within easy reach.
