Located overlooking the market square in the bustling town of Aylsham, The Ironmongers is a beautiful Georgian townhouse with eight bedrooms available. Each of the rooms celebrates one of the historic trades of the town, from The Haberdashery and The Florists to The Confectioners and The Biscuiteers. The building is steeped in history and has been home to some of the town's trades during its lifetime. It has been home to tailors, wine merchants and, of course, ironmongers.
Each of the rooms has been designed to pay tribute to the trade they are named after. Enjoy fine fabrics and bold colours in The Haberdashery. Or, snuggle up in The Ostlers, a cosy room with the original beams and exposed brick walls, celebrating the stable hands who cared for the horses of those staying at the Inn. The Landscapers is inspired by the famous Norfolk designer Humphrey Repton and you can explore some of his best work at the nearby Sheringham Park.
The historic bedrooms have all been individually designed, not in the least because of the unique shape of each room. There are timber beams framing some of the rooms, grand sash windows overlooking the market square in others. You’ll find the safe that once stored the day’s earnings in one of the bathrooms and a Victorian shoe discovered under the floorboards on display in the bedroom of The Cobblers. The Tailors room also has some delightful, previously hidden Elizabethan features.
Whichever trade you choose, you’ll enjoy a luxurious and boutique experience. The rooms all have comfy beds, sumptuous linen and ensuite bathrooms. There are smart TVs and many of the rooms have a seating area where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and watch as the market square comes to life below you.
As well as exploring the pretty market town of Aylsham and discovering the work of tradesmen and artists who still live and work there today, The Ironmongers is ideally placed for exploring Norfolk. The town is just 15 minutes from the Norfolk Broads where you can hire a boat and wind your way through the pretty landscape. It’s also just 25 minutes from the stunning Norfolk coast and the vibrant city of Norwich.
