Tucked privately among the trees of Mayen Estate, Gate Lodge is a wonderfully romantic hideaway for two, where historic Georgian charm meets some seriously special touches. Dating back to 1788, this beautiful cottage sits in the heart of Scotland’s Deveron Valley, offering couples a peaceful adults-only escape complete with a private woodland sauna, wood-fired Scandinavian bath and gorgeous interiors filled with antiques.
Inside, the lodge feels warm, intimate and full of character. The open-plan living space is just the spot for slow mornings and cosy evenings, with antique furnishings sitting alongside comfortable seating and a wood burning stove with unlimited logs. Underfloor heating keeps things wonderfully snug, while a Smart TV is on hand when you fancy settling in for a film after a day outdoors.
The kitchen is impressively equipped for a romantic self-catering break. There’s a range cooker, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, as well as all the equipment you’ll need to prepare everything from lazy breakfasts to candlelit dinners. This includes a Ninja AutoBarista Pro Espresso Machine, offering a variety of hot and cold drinks to enjoy, with coffee beans and fresh farm milk provided to get you started. You can dine together at the table indoors or head out to the patio and put the Kamado BBQ or gas Ooni pizza oven to good use.
When bedtime calls, retreat to the beautiful bedroom where a comfortable king size bed is dressed in crisp British-made cotton linen. One of the lodge’s most indulgent features is the double-ended slipper roll-top bath in the bedroom, inviting you to enjoy a long soak before slipping beneath the covers. There’s also a separate bathroom with a walk-in shower, heritage-style fittings, fluffy white towels, robes and Scottish Fine Soaps.
