The Fisherman's Hideaway is one of four luxury safari tents nestled around a lake in the boutique family run Lost Gardens Retreat. Sleeping up to six it would be perfect for a family holiday, friends wanting to reconnect with nature or couples wanting to relax together. The tent, which is really more of a lodge, sits overlooking a pretty lake and blends wonderfully with the surroundings.
Inside is open plan, spacious, cool and airy in the summer but super cosy and warm in the winter with its wood burner to keep your toes toasty. The furnishing is elegant and simple with a Chesterfield sofa and corner chair sitting opposite a wooden dining table where you can enjoy a feast prepared in the fully equipped kitchen area. Decked out in wood with all the mod cons and a nice big breakfast bar, this is a great space to chill out and eat in chillier weather, or pour some wine and play one of the nostalgic board games provided. If you've packed a good paperback you could happily curl up of the sofa and drift away. Inspired by the host's grandad's fishing hut there are little nautical nods everywhere including a gorgeous seating area outside fashioned out of an old rowing boat.
At bed time you can choose from a stunning king sized bed with a beautiful handmade headboard adorned with oars and draped in lights, a room with bunk beds that are made of thick local wood and suitable for adults, and a cabin bed, also king size and very comfortable. All of the beds are super comfy with fresh soft cotton sheets and warm snuggly duvets.
In the morning you'll be pleased to find a bathroom with underfloor heating, heated towel rails, a walk-in shower and a lovingly hand-painted bathtub. The bathroom is within the tent so no need to stagger across a clearing in the dead of night in search of a toilet!
In the morning grab a coffee and take it outside to enjoy on the decking. It's a lovely spot with a pretty view and a perfect way to start the day. There's comfortable seating where you can wake up slowly and plan your day. The deck has a BBQ where you can cook and then eat at a picnic table that will comfortably sit six. Afterwards you could grab a towel and sink into the Scandinavian eco hot tub with a glass of fizz.
Enjoy a long walk around the Lost Garden, sign up for wellness classes and spa treatments, dip a toe in the lake and when night falls light up the hearty fire pit and get the marshmallows toasting under the stars.
If you don't fancy shopping and organising there are plenty of hampers you can arrange to have delivered including breakfast, BBQ, Champagne and Oysters and even a weekend hamper that is choc full of goodies.
If you fancy a meal out there's a fabulous local pub only a mile away! The George is in the village and serves up a nice pint, great burgers and has a nice outside decking. They also do a quiz on Thursdays. For something more fancy you could book a table at Hintlesham Hall, a plush four red star hotel serving award-winning cuisine and only half a mile away. And if you want to travel a little further afield there's a veritable feast of places to choose from.
Other than food there are lots of fun activities in and around the area including fishing, water sports, golf, cycling, rowing (you can row up to Dedham to have a lazy lunch at The Boathouse before rowing back with an ice cream), farm shops and Jimmy's Farm! However, you choose to spend your time, The Fishermen's Hideaway will be waiting for you at the end of the day with its lovely view and a cold drink in the eco hot tub.
