Sprawling period home with landscaped gardens, two kitchens, large hot tub, outdoor dining area, BBQ, wood burners and games room in the Cairngorms.
Green Tourism Silver Award
This impressive period home, comprising the main house and the internally connected West Wing, sleeps up to 24 in a splendid setting and would be wonderful for a large family reunion or a special occasion. Tucked away in a stunning part of the Cairngorms, near Aviemore, this delightful house is large and luxurious but maintains the feel of a warm and welcoming home.
The main building has a large kitchen with an Aga and a breakfast bar where you can gather to unpack groceries and pour a welcome drink. On a warm day you can head out to the terrace through the French doors for a long alfresco breakfast at the big table overlooking the spectacular gardens. As well as the Aga range there is an electric oven and gas hob providing everything you could need to whip up a feast for big numbers.
Across from the kitchen is the main lounge which is large and comfortable with a corner sofa and armchairs where you can watch a film with the wood burner keeping you toasty. There are subtle nods to Scotland in the décor with tartan cushions and throws, a few thistles in vases, adding a personal and charming touch to an already delightful place. On chilly evenings this is also a lovely place to gather together for a pre-dinner drink or you could head through into the games room where a fantastic pool table and a cocktail bar await you.
Dinner can be enjoyed in the main dining room at the large wooden table. Or in summer you can make the most of the garden and dine with a view across the manicured lawns to the pastures where cattle roam.
The West Wing provides another wonderful kitchen with a cosy 10-seater dining table, perfect for casual suppers or bustling breakfasts. With its own little living room and another wood burner this would be perfect for two families coming together or a multi-generational family wanting to spread out.
In both parts of the building the bedrooms are housed on the first and second floor with a huge choice of combinations to suit all configurations. You'll find super-kings, twins, doubles and a roomy triple ideal for children or siblings sharing. Some of the rooms come with ensuite facilities and there are also main bathrooms, one of which has a fabulous freestanding cast iron green bathtub with views of the garden where you can enjoy a long lazy soak.
You'll also find a snug with a TV and DVD player which can be a hang out for the children or utilised as an office if needed.
The garden is set up for the pleasure of both adults and children. The rear gardens have a wonderful Wendy house and a tree swing. The lawns are perfect for a game of rounders and you'll find mature trees surrounding the area.
At the bottom of the garden is a very large paved area which is home to a table and a gas-fired BBQ big enough to cook for everyone. Whilst the chef gets lunch ready you might like to settle yourself in the vast hot tub with a cold drink and enjoy the view of Craigelachie Hill. And in the evening you can light up the fire pit and toast some marshmallows as the stars come out.
You'll be a short walk from the centre of Rothiemurchus where you'll find an excellent Farm Shop. And if you fancy exploring you're just around the corner from the beautiful Loch an Eilein and Loch Morlich which has a beach and plenty of water sports to keep you entertained. In the winter you'll be close to Cairngorm Mountain for skiing.
