Tucked away in a peaceful wood on the Isle of Bute, this pair of lovely huts have been thoughtfully designed to blend in perfectly with their surroundings. With minimal impact on the local environment, each hut offers couples a cosy and romantic retreat in a truly tranquil setting.
The Charcoal Huts were inspired by the early charcoal burner settlements that were historically found in this area of Moss Wood. The paths that connect the huts with the surrounding scenery are the very same paths that these early inhabitants used, so venture out on foot and head to the West Island Way and beyond.
Inside, each hut has a cosy interior with wood-burning stoves to ensure you stay toasty and warm whatever the weather outside. These stoves can also be used for cooking, and you’re provided with a supply of fire lighters, kindling and firewood for use during your stay. You also have a stove-top cafetière for that all-important first brew of the day and an array of cooking utensils for preparing tasty food throughout the day.
The huts each feature a comfy double bed for a peaceful night’s sleep and, if you’re travelling with little ones, there are two single child-sized beds too.
Whilst the cabins allow you to get back to basics, being completely off-grid, they feature quality fixtures and fittings to ensure your comfort. There is also an eco-friendly compost toilet for you to use, and you will have your own drinking water and basic washing up facilities. However, there’s no hot water on the site unless you heat it yourself.
In the morning, unwind on your wooden deck gazing out at the woods or hire a mountain bike and explore 160 hectares of forests that stretch out around you. Then, when the afternoon rolls around, gather in the communal picnic area and come the evening sit by the shared firepit and toast marshmallows as the stars come out above.
Nestled in a peaceful birch woodland, these beautifully crafted huts offer sweeping views across the magical Kyles of Bute and just a short stroll brings you to your own hidden slice of coastline that is quiet, private and perfect for a morning swim or sunset wander.
If you venture further afield, the Isle of Bute offers a charming escape into Scotland’s natural beauty and rich history. Just a short ferry ride from the mainland, Bute features stunning coastal views, tranquil beaches and the impressive Mount Stuart House - a neo-Gothic mansion with lush gardens. Rothesay, the island’s main town, is perfect for strolling and enjoying local seafood and outdoor enthusiasts can explore scenic trails and wildlife.
