Royal Lymington Yacht Club dinghy yard is probably not the first place that springs to mind when looking for a beautifully designed holiday getaway, but that is exactly what the Boat Shed offers. This rescued and repurposed property is owned by Alice and Henning Stummel, who have previously appeared on Grand Designs House of the Year programme on Channel 4.
While the hustle and bustle of a busy coastal town goes on around, the Boat Shed is a haven of peace and quiet with sea birds and the far off rumble of the ferry the only noise, and the Sea Water Baths of the Lymington Lido - which is worth a visit - peeking through boat masts making up the tranquil view.
A perfect spot for couples, guests enter into the main room, which acts as the living, dining, and sleeping area. A queen size sofa bed is perfect for relaxing on in the day and snuggling up to sleep in at night. The kitchen area with sink, hob, toaster, and kettle runs along the opposite wall, while there is also a dining table seating four. Off the main room is a bathroom with shower and toilet, while sitting above this is a mezzanine level with a single bed, which is accessed by a vertical ladder.
Outside is the quaint garden, sheltered by mature trees that also keep the Boat Shed private from the neighbours. There's also parking for two cars. The garden leads directly into the boat yard and public slipway, so guests can feel free to bring along their own boat, or alternatively hire one locally. Just beyond here is the beautiful Sea Wall Coastal Walk, which is nine miles long in total but can be cut down to cater for all abilities. With fantastic sea views and opportunities for bird watching, this flat, gravel path has plenty of pubs and cafes to discover as well.
The nearest pub to the Boat Shed itself is the Mayflower and is just a 2-minute walk away and serves excellent food. Lymington High Street with all its shops and restaurants is also just a short stroll away and has a thriving market every Saturday.
Please note: minimum stay for this property is: 2 nights low season & 5 nights high season
