With west-facing views over the Cuillin Mountains of Skye and the Inner Sound coastline, The Birdhouse promises breathtaking sunsets and serene mornings. The airy interior, adorned with natural wood and stone, is complemented by the warming log burner and the enchanting rowan branches canopy over the bed, creating a fairy-tale ambiance year-round.
The Birdhouse's interior design merges contemporary Scottish elegance with rural charm. Painted in soothing Farrow and Ball hues, the space features beautiful tweeds, lovely linens and plush cushions. The attention to detail is evident in the skillful carpentry and the quirky bird-themed decor throughout the bothy.
During the colder months stay warm thanks to the heating and the wood-burning stove when you cosy up with a good book as the flames crackle. On sunnier days, relax on the bench in front of The Birdhouse, savouring a glass of wine while taking in the scenic views or watching the garden birds. This is a delightful place to sit with your morning coffee and plot the day ahead. For outdoor dining, a separate BBQ area with seating is perfect for alfresco meals.
In the living room and kitchen area, you'll find a flat screen smart TV, free WiFi, a mini dishwasher, fridge, mini oven with grill and two-ring hob, along with store cupboard essentials. For those wetter days, a compact drying cupboard is conveniently located inside the front door. The bedroom offers a hanging wardrobe, hair dryer and washing machine, with a cleaning cupboard tucked behind charming corrugated iron doors. The five-foot king size bed is dressed with fine cotton linens, a feather and down duvet, tartan blanket and stunning cushions.
In the morning enjoy a shower and make use of the organic hand and body products from the Highland Soap Company, as well as the fluffy towels.
The Applecross Peninsula, covering over 70,000 acres and home to around 260 residents, features quaint villages, the renowned Applecross Inn, a local shop, a petrol station, a fish and chip takeaway and a beautiful walled garden with a cafe.
Scattered sandy beaches, both obvious and hidden, await exploration. Walking and hiking reveal abundant wildlife, including red deer, mountain hares, Highland cows and sheep and around the lochs, you might spot otters, seals and dolphins.
Applecross is a perfect base for exploring the region. Head north to Torridon, Gairloch and Ullapool, discovering castles, ancient brochs, gardens and beaches. To the south, visit Lochcarron, Plockton and Glenelg. Enjoy the gardens of Attadale and Plockton’s palm-lined sea front for a lovely day out.

The Birdhouse was very comfortable, well equipped and had a nestful of character! The bird theme was just right. We were met by our hosts and it was easy to ask them for advice or information on anything at all. We can absolutely recommend it as a place to stay. We were lucky enough to enjoy some fantastic dry and sunny weather, so made the most of the many walks in the area with our dog. The local scenery is amazing and easily accessible, providing both challenging and leisurely activity.
