The detail

Nestled amongst ancient woodland, a short walk from the beautiful Cornish coast, this enchanting cottage will leave guests spellbound. The Barley Mill has been beautifully renovated and is full of character and charm. It is also one of the only holiday properties located in the heart of the Marsland Valley Nature Reserve, making it the perfect bolthole for couples looking to switch off and tune into the natural world while enjoying all the comforts needed for a relaxing break. You and your loved ones can enjoy true tranquility thanks to the incredible location and if you venture out you have miles of spellbinding scenery and natural beauty just waiting to be explored.

Guests will instantly fall in love with its fairytale charm from the moment they set eyes on this woodland home, with its wooden balcony and exposed stone work.

Throughout the interior, the owners have thoughtfully added beautiful design touches to ensure the cottage is truly bespoke. From gorgeous soft furnishings in a variety of textures and colour to the old plasterwork and original timber used from the floor to the window sills to the ceiling beams.

On the downstairs level there is a snug bedroom with a beautiful double bed dressed with luxurious linens and cosy duvets and blankets. This beautifully decorated room has lovely Liberty-style wallpaper, floor length curtains which can be drawn around the bed and a gorgeous bespoke hardwood headboard. Deep sleep and long lie-ins are surely guaranteed.

Up the wooden stairs into the kitchen and seating area. The small kitchen is well-equipped for making simple suppers and delicious breakfasts.

Guests can relax on the large leather sofa, enjoying the views from the comfort of this cosy space. A wood burner sits discreetly in the corner, pumping out heat on chilly days and creating a romantic atmosphere.

From the sitting area, patio doors lead out to the fabulous wooden balcony which is the idyllic spot for enjoying a morning coffee or supper on warm sunny evenings. There are large wooden armchairs where guests can sit amongst the tree canopy and listen to the birdsong and the gentle sound of the water flowing in the river.

Barley Mill is one of the only holiday lets located in the heart of the Marsland Valley Nature Reserve. That makes this a truly unique stay that is absolutely perfect for nature lovers who are looking for complete isolation. The Marsland Valley Nature Reserve is a magical, secretive mix of woodland, coastline and butterfly-filled meadows that stretches down to a beautiful beach.

The reserve is only accessible on foot, which means you are able to park up at the mill and stay the night in true peace and tranquillity away from the crowds. The beach is also only accessed via a pretty walk, so you can take a stroll from the mill and experience the feeling of having your own private beach. If you are a lover of tranquil scenery, wild flowers and striking sea views, then this really is the stay for you.
