This modern cabin sits on the grounds of a former grain mill near Lauder in the Scottish Borders. Comfortably sleeping two guests, with additional space for one extra, the Stilt House offers you a relaxing rural retreat in a fantastic location. The cabin is nestled in a peaceful, tranquil spot between the mill pond and the Boondreigh River.
This simply designed living space is modern, yet rustic, and offers great views of your surroundings. It is filled with natural light and makes use of stylish interiors, as well as super-comfy furnishings.
The main living area centres around the wood burning stove, which can keep you cosy all-year-round. Relax in the seating area, with a glass of wine whilst watching the ducks bob around on the mill pond.
The compact kitchen also has all the appliances you’ll need to cook up a storm. There’s a mini-fridge, cooking equipment, crockery, glasses and cutlery. There’s a nifty Esse Bakeheart stove that can be used for baking, but also has a stove on top. Guests are also provided with an electric hob to use as a back up.
In the warmer months sit outside and cook over the firepit, which can keep you toasty long into the night as you gaze up at the stars above.
The Stilt House bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed that has crisp white linen. You’ve also got space to store your bags underneath, and additional bedding can be provided for the small sofa bed if needed.
You’ll also be pleased to know that the Stilt House has its own private shower room complete with a WC and shower. This is located about 30 metres from the property, but is entirely your own. There are no shared facilities here! The owners provide you with towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
Relax outside by the water’s edge, or explore all of the grounds at Dod Mill. Wildlife lovers can spot ducks, owls, herons, and otters, all within a few meters of your cabin. You may want to go for a wander and help yourself to apples, plums and hazelnuts from the orchard when the season is right, or forage for brambles, watercress and elderflower.
The Stilt House is located in the Scottish Borders close to the boundary with the Lothians. This gives you plenty of natural scenery to explore, so make sure you bring your hiking boots. Or if waking isn’t your thing, why not pop over to Edinburgh for a day of culture, great pubs, and fine food? The English border and the county of Northumberland are also within easy reach.
