Set just a few miles from Bampton, famous as the setting for Downton Abbey, the cute, cosy and luxurious shepherds hut make a wonderful base to explore this lovely part of the country.
Nestled amongst pretty farmland and surrounded by horses grazing in paddocks and wild flower meadows, a gravel-path leads you from the traditional farmhouse and parking area to the pretty hut which offers simple luxury in the most relaxing and restful of environments.
This bijou dwelling is perfect for enjoying a romantic break with a loved one, or for indulging yourself with a well-deserved chance to soak up the peaceful environment with only yourself to please. The pretty hut sits amongst the soft, green grass and is neighboured by a wooden deck which makes a great spot for guests to have a coffee, inhale the fresh country air, and enjoy the birdsong of the early mornings.
Wooden steps take guests into the hut where they are greeted with a welcome hamper full of indulgent supplies which include delicious cakes, and the 'Starlight Express' breakfast. The eggs are freshly laid by the owner's happy hens who live just a few footsteps away, and the hamper also includes bread, fruit, granola and yoghurt. The kitchen is small but perfectly equipped with a fridge, hob and oven so putting together a romantic supper is perfectly possible. Guests can enjoy meals al fresco or at the cosy dining area.
The boutique bathroom is stocked with fragrant toiletries and an excellent shower. Like the rest of the hut, it is filled with delicate, homely touches which echo the quintessential English countryside which sits just a footstep away. Tongue and groove panelling covers the walls and tasteful rural touches can be found throughout, from the mugs sitting on the kitchen shelf to the blinds and the linen.
A super king bed fills one end of the hut and, come bedtime, guests can enjoy the silence of the countryside, the darkness of the pollution-free skies, and enjoy a restorative sleep between the crisp linens before rising to discover more about this beautiful part of the world.
The Cotswolds is famous across the world for its chocolate box prettiness, quaint villages full of wisteria-shrouded thatched cottages and cosy country pubs. Medieval churches, Roman remains and some of England's most beautiful gardens are complemented by the great foodie scene.
There are many lovely walks from the doorstep, including strolls to the River Thames and to many of the local gastro-pubs. Favourites include The Lamb at Buckland and The Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge. Great day trips include a visit to historic Oxford and the splendid Blenheim Palace.
