Rated five-star Gold by Visit England, Somerset Soul is a spacious and luxurious holiday home offering relaxation, serenity and exclusivity with an impressive attention to detail. This property is perfect for a larger family or group of friends wanting a restorative break in the beautiful Somerset countryside. The main house sleeps eight with an option to include The Dairy in your rental, a delightful little addition that sleeps two and has its own living area and bathroom.
Set on the edge of a valley close to Babington House, Mells, Bath and Frome, the property is an impressive newly renovated farmhouse that has been added to over the centuries and is now a lovely mix of traditional country tropes such as beautiful rolling lawns and inglenook fireplaces with delightful modern additions like the large swimming pool and charging points for any guests with electric cars.
There's a private gated entrance to the west of the house but most guests come through the main electric gates, park in the top courtyard by the garages and enter along the cobbled path, past the octagonal gazebo adorned with roses. Which is a lovely way to see the property for the first time.
The kitchen really is the heart of this house. Large, light and airy with a big farmhouse table at its centre and warmed by the refurbished four oven Aga, this is the place to gather and share a pot of tea and a slice of cake. There's a Butler sink, Quooker hot tap and an American style fridge freezer lending the space a homely vibe and a perfect spot for informal dining or a group effort with the meal prep.
Next to the kitchen is a conservatory summer kitchen, which is also an excellent spot for dining with large glass sliding doors which open completely bringing the outside in. This is the ideal spot to indulge in long lazy suppers with the chandelier and lantern light flickering around you, protected from the elements. There's a second conservatory on the other side, which is a perfect study and a wonderful spot to watch the sunset.
The snug is a cosy bolthole with TV hooked up to Sky Sports, sofa and large inglenook fireplace. Across the hall is the movie room with a 75” surround sound TV, soft teal velvet sofa with plush cushions and a leather ottoman; a perfect place to cosy up for movie nights with your loved ones.
Guests will love the elegant drawing room which has an open fire, floral sofas and Swedish antique furniture with French doors facing onto the front terrace and views across the valley. This is a delightful place to come together for a pre-prandial early evening lifter.
All of the bedrooms are decorated in pale soft colours and furnishings with super-king sized beds which can be made into twins if needed. Some have en-suites whilst the master boasts a freestanding marble-effect slipper bath set on an oak floor. The feel is of light, spacious and genteel luxury country living.
The gardens are on different levels with terraces, patio area and tiered banks. It's all very idyllic with weeping willows and lovely roses. From there's direct access to the walled garden, which houses the outdoor heated swimming pool and spa house, with a large steam room.
The city of Bath is less than 40 minutes away with an array of boutiques, cafés and restaurants as well as famous sites such as The Roman Baths, Pump Rooms, Thermae Spa and the Royal Crescent. Close by is the village of Mells with a delightful café selling local produce and a great family pub. Frome, five miles away, is an historic market town with cobbled streets. There's a vibrant atmosphere, with plenty of independent shops and cafes. The local market is every Wednesday and Saturday. All this and more can be found in the owners’ digital guidebook, which has been designed to help you get the most out of your stay.
